Sounds good to me, i’m just down the road from Lyon Oaks.
It’s still a pretty early but is anyone planning on attending the RMC this year? Or care to share your thoughts on last years event?
I went on Sunday last year and hung around the 313 area most of the day. I thought the organization of the event was excellent. It was seamless getting in and out. It was my first professional golf event I’ve been too and most likely return next year. It was a lot of fun.
I felt the same way. That 313 area had some of the best viewing opportunities on the course including Danny Lee’s crotch chop on the 14th green on Sunday. I was thinking about trying to organize a meet up of any refugees who might be attending and I’m trying to gauge some early interest.
Flint area here. I’m happy to pass along Course info and play a round although I have to say there’s a lot better golf your way. Lapeer, metamora, etc are fun courses
I volunteered as a standard bearer. I went everyday, and the players were all really cool and engaging. I just wish the weather wasn’t so hot so they didn’t have to water the greens nonstop and I wish more of the top players went. From what I heard one of the nicest players was Reed, and DJ was the worst.
Definitely in for a meet up this year. Was able to snag some good tickets through work last year and had a great time. Really enjoy following around the groups that most casual fans don’t really know about so you can get pretty close to the action.
I’m hoping for better weather this year with the date being pushed up to May. It was brutally hot all week last year.
Was able to follow around some of the lesser known names last year and it was interesting to watch Smylie try and get things going in his only made cut of the year. I tried to stay away from the Fowler Kisner pairing on Saturday, seemed like all of metro Detroit was with that group on Saturday. It should be interesting to see how things change going forward.
I went Friday morning and got there really early. Followed Els/Harman/Kang for 9 holes and I was pretty much by myself. Cam Champ was 2 holes back shooting 28 so that probably helped. Hopped around in the afternoon but very small galleries if you stayed away from the biggest 2 or 3 groups.
Checking in from Waterford/White Lake. Moving to the Canton area soon though!
Way in on this. Live in the New Hudson/South Lyon area. A western suburbs brew/golf meetup would be awesome. Just moved to Michigan about a year ago. Anyone recommend a club out here with a fun membership/ spot to find a regular game? Seems like GREAT public golf, but definitely interested in meeting some people and think a membership could be an option.
Checking in from Rochester. Recently moved to the area and will be living right by Pine Trace. Any thoughts on the course? Let me know if you’d like to get a game going. Also in on the RMC this year. Sounds like a great time.
Welcome to the area! I play in a league at Pine Trace and I enjoy the course. It’s in pretty good condition, the greens roll well, and I’ve never really had an issue with pace. Only gripe with the course is that some of the trees out there really need to be cut down, especially on #13. I’ve heard the sister course Shepherd’s Hollow is better, but I haven’t gotten a chance to get out there and play yet.
I’ve posted in here before but I’m in Plymouth.
Pine Trace is solid, agreed it’s short on width but that’s pretty much standard for metro Detroit. Shepherd’s Hollow is in good condition and has a ton of land movement - it almost reminds me of an up north course. It can get pricey though, I think.
If you’re looking for something private, Walnut Creek is fairly nice. And it should be very close to you. I have not looked into membership options in awhile, but I’ve heard good things from members.
I think the most well known (and upper echelon) ones are Barton Hills in Ann Arbor and Meadowbrook in Northville. Barton is an old Ross and Meadowbrook is Willie Park Jr that went thru a large renovation by Andy Staples. Andy Johnson (@thefriedegg) did a podcast on the renovation and has written some cool things about the course. I’m dying to get out there - luckily my in laws have connections there.

@SpartanButters could probably give some info on clubs in the area too
Speaking of private clubs, anyone a member at Plum Hollow/Red Run/Wyndgate and want to share their experience there? Hoping to catch a decent deal this spring on initiation fees at a club more in the Royal Oak to Bloomfield area.
Ooooo interested too in Red Run. Grew up literally blocks from the course and I’ve always wanted to play there. I’d be curious in membership rates too - hoping a club can be a possibility in the next 3-5 years.
Thanks for the input! League play at Pine Trace sounds ideal. Hopefully we can get a solid refugee presence at the course.
