Roll Call: Michigan - get out and play!

Hey everyone - new to the Refuge but not to NLU. I live out in Highland and play most of my golf out this way. Looking forward to getting involved in discussions. Love Rackham, love the Lake Doster pull earlier in this thread - i’ve probably played there about 50-60 times. No love for the UP courses yet? I grew up on Portage Lake but the Greywalls, Timberstone, and others up there have some great character depending on what you’re looking for and how far you’re willing to travel.

I stopped by on a Saturday for lunch in August to check it out. I was really impressed with the condition. The green itself is huge, and there’s a lot of humps and undulation. I had the whole thing to myself except for a couple of kids whose parents sent them out to keep busy before they got a table for lunch.

The restaurant itself was very busy. My burger was quite good. Only real drawback is that you’re drinking $13 cocktails (which were delicious, but I’m not sure what else they had to drink if it’s not your thing).

They do rent out the back area for weddings/events (they were setting one up for the evening when I was there) so you might call to check that it is available before you show up. A non-golf alternate in the same area would be Greenbush Brewing. Good beer and BBQ, with a bocce court in their back yard.

Here are my shitty pictures of Journeyman:

Likely stuck in Detroit tonight. Seeking recommendations.

Where are you staying?

I’m still in the air so I’ll be figuring it out after landing. Something on the Marriott chain.

I see the Wings are in town hosting the Blue Jackets

This is a solid primer for Detroit as a whole. You can do some serious damage eating and drinking in Corktown.

For a post-Red Wings eat, there’s no better place than Lafayette Coney Island

Definitely worth going to see the new stadium. The Wings on the other hand are hot trash this year :frowning:

Midtown/cass corridor has some great eats as well

Looks like the weather is going to be nice the next few days. Anyone looking to get a round in on Sunday at Rackham or somewhere in the metro Detroit area?

Long time NLU fan, new to the Refuge. I live in Grand Rapids.

Welcome! Also a grand rapids resident. If you have Instagram you should follow Random Golf Club GR

There is a meet this upcoming week at X golf. It’s worth a follow. A bunch a cool guys who are all golf sickos like most NLU fans

I already follow Random Golf on instagram. My wife are also big EAL fans. We tried to make a couple of the random golf club outings this summer/fall but they were on my golf league nights or we had a prior commitment. We definitely plan on making at least one this year!!

Awesome! Hope to see you out there!

Where do you do your leagues at? I moved over to GR last year and I am looking to get into a league this golf season.

Currently live in Ohio, but I grew up in SE Michigan. My family is still there and Up North so I visit a lot. I’m often there for work, too.

Fledgeling refugee here checking in from Lapeer/Genesee County… for a early spring

Also in Royal Oak, once spring rolls around here we should get a round in at Rackham or somewhere nearby. Too bad the weather has been worse recently, had been pretty mild up until late December

Livonia resident, also work in Ann Arbor. Spend a fair amount of time at Drafting Table in Wixom as well.

Maybe we could get a Metro Detroit - West Refuge event going at Lyon Oaks with post-round drinks at DT.
