Roll Call: Michigan - get out and play!

3rd hole for me, should be a baptism by fire.

2B. Does anyone live in the area? I’m in Novi, MI

Anyone here playing in the Whistler at DGC next week??? My buddy asked me to play and I am super excited.

Honestly, not a bad hole to start on. Fairway is wide. Just be on the correct side of the green. It’s a WILD two tier green.

Ann Arbor, so not too far for me. My playing partner managed to snag us a spot at Franklin Hills the next morning.

For those wondering, Andy (Johnson) talks with Andy (Staples) about the renovation in the Youtube video linked below. They specifically talk about the 3rd green being Staples’ favorite on the course as an homage to Willie Park’s Huntercombe GC in England. You can see it at 2:14 in the video…which, frankly doesn’t do it justice for what it actually looks like in person.

So many great holes on that golf course. With the weather forecast, that place could be SPICY if they allow it to play firm and fast. Course management is absolutely crucial…plays very similar to Arcadia South & the Loop only with better conditioning. Sometimes it is better to miss the green completely than be on the wrong tier.

I’m starting on #3 too. Based on your username I’m going to infer we’re partners.

I apologize in advance.

I’m starting on 13b, I can’t wait it’s gonna be great. I played the course a couple years ago and I’ve been dying to go back

My group did this in early May. Very much worth it. Just be humble and kind when you call. The guest and caddie fees are extremely reasonable for the experience. The staff is great from the clubhouse to caddies.

I’ve only ever heard awesome things about the vibe there. Kicking myself for not knowing it was that easy to get on there especially when I was back in the area for 9 months during the pandemic and they were still allowing guests all summer.

Shout out to @wseitz26 for hosting me at Kingsley today! Fantastic guy to play with, and a great golfer to boot. Helped look for all my wayward shots (there were a few) and was very patient, especially on 17 when I hit more shots on one hole than maybe he’s ever seen? Thanks again Bill!

One of the things I miss the most about moving out of Michigan was my annual Kingsley Club trip. To this day it is still my favorite golf experience. The lack of club house, the isolation, the course, it’s just all too perfect.

These are probably 6-7 years old now but I look back at them frequently.

Might as well make that the name of this thread because Bill is the man. Exceptionally generous (ill-advised?) to invite internet strangers to your club. Fantastic host not to mention a certified player. Shepherded me around Kingsley for one of the most enjoyable and satisfying rounds I’ve ever played. Cheers @wseitz26!

So here’s a shot in the dark, but I’m hoping maybe I can lean on some of you guys for inspiration.

I played with a few guys at Maxamania, so they will be familiar with this project, but I’m in the process of beginning a Michigan golf travel series, in the hopes of replacing the stale Michigan Golf Live format. This would include a video series for sure, and maybe some articles and/or podcast. I will be happy to document the journey as I get going, and most definitely look to loop people from the Refuge into rounds and possibly episodes.

Sadly, I’m having a harder time with a name/branding scheme than I anticipated. Everything that has come to mind feels like it needs too much of an explanation, or wouldn’t make sense to a lot of golfers even with an explanation (I like obscure 90’s hip-hop references a little too much probably).

Could I bother you guys for some ideas? If you had a golf show and could name it anything, what would it be? It could be specific to Michigan, or like a regional name. Or it could just be anything.

I’m just looking for a spark. Hopefully you guys can have some fun with it!
