Will be driving through on Thursday on my way to Kingsley. Trying to set up Wuskowhan for Thursday, but haven’t gotten a response. Might try Arcadia South or just head straight up for 36+ on Thursday.
I’ll be at Kingsley Thursday afternoon, all day Friday, and Saturday morning before driving back to Chicago. If anyone in the area, I’d be happy to host. There’s a noon game on Friday that they’ve started setting up (guests are welcome) that I might get into. Might be my last trip up this year, but hopefully not.
Kingsley is a DeVries course. He also designed Diamond Springs. Not sure where you’ll be when but if you’d like to give Diamond Springs a run Thursday afternoon I’d be game.
I am not available this week, last week of both kids being in sports and dance. But I would definitely be interested going in the near future. Full disclosure I am a 16 handicap and lately have been struggling to play to that though.
I am south of Grand Rapids and will be here until the end of July and I don’t mind driving a bit for some golf. I’m about a 17 myself. I don’t know a ton of people in the area that play so I’m just looking to play more golf
Have you been to the any of the RGC GR meet ups? Not going to lie, I am a little hesitant because the idea of playing golf with 10 other people on the same hole is a nightmare to me. If you have been, am I off base with my hesitation?
Say what you will about EAL, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing to encourage people to meet up with other random people to play golf.
Yeah man, that’s not only obnoxious to the players playing in the 40-some but also to everyone else at the golf course. Not trying to be a part of that. Hoping I’m wrong and that the crowded tee box stuff is just (poor) PR.
I have been to a bunch of them. Playing as a group is a bit of a challenge. If your hesitation is related to not being a good golfer, do not worry about that. There are all level of golfers there. If you come with the mind set that it’s more of a hang out and to meet new people it helps. I’ve made some quality golf friends from the meet ups.
The GR group isn’t huge and most of the time we don’t have more that 12 guys.
We had a meet up at The Mines where we had four tee times and the mines required us to play as foursomes. Honesty I prefer that too.
For Diamond springs we have every tee time reserved for us from 6:00 to the last tee time. We believe we are set to play as a big group.
Again, I would suggest coming with the mindset that you’re looking to see a cool course and meet some good people and hit a few golf shots along the way. It’s not for everyone but it really is a lot of fun if you can separate the golf from the “hang out”.
The group is adjacent to RGC but it’s the farthest thing from trying to be like EAL and his events.
I need to make myself stop at Diamond Springs (and the Mines, and Pilgrim’s Run) one of these days and see Mike’s other courses. I’ve played Greywalls. Mike’s a great guy and fun to chat and play golf with. A little more personable than the other famous architect who lives in Traverse City. It’s just hard to stop and pay for golf when I’m two hours from my favorite course and it’s already paid for.
Is anyone going to the Stalemate Fried Egg event at Meadowbrook on Monday? I’ve never seen the course before but can’t wait to try to figure out those green complexes
I am playing Monday and I’m looking forward to it. Played there before the renovation and this will be the first time afterwards. So I’m pretty excited about seeing it and enjoying the day.
