I’ve heard the accomodations are pretty bare bones, and it’s in the middle of nowhere. That’s about all I know.
We stayed in the condos once and the villas the second time. Neither were great but neither were bad either, especially when you account for the cost. We spent most of our non golf time outside either on the decks or at the lodge outdoor bar.
Heading to Pinecroft, Champion Hill and Belvedere tomorrow with my wife for our annual golf trip. I can not say enough about Pinecroft and Champion Hill. In fact Champion Hill is in my top 4 courses in Michigan that I have played!
This is half of my golf trip up north at the end of June as well! Never played any of these 3 but am very excited to check them out.
Welcome fellow Treetops refugee @155Funson!
Me and some friends are hitting Belvedere, Arcadia and champion hill this week, seems like a popular time to do it.
Anyone wanna join me Monday afternoon at cascade hills?
This is posted in the Slack channel, but I’ll add it here for coverage.
I have 3 tee times on Friday the 9th at Eldorado, starting at 3:52pm. I only have 3 people playing, including myself, at the moment, so I’ll likely call and drop down to one tee time tomorrow. If anyone wants to join, though, let me know and I can keep a 2nd tee time around if needed. Don Smith, the GM, said he may join us if he’s able to.
Renting a house with another family on Charlevoix CC in July. Planning to play 2 rounds at Belvedere, 1 round at Charlevoix CC and 1 round at the Charlevoix muni 9 holer. Loved Belvedere last year but are CCC and the city 9 any good?
Heard good things about both. CCC is technically part of the A-Ga-Ming resort so usually in decent shape. Same for Antrim Dells.
You’re also 10 minutes from Petoskey with Bay Harbor and Crooked Tree.
Dunmaglas is another course in Charlevoix. It was fun for what it is - stress free afternoon round.
Could be special if someone invested some money in it. Has some really dramatic elevation changes and some good views from the high points. Classic up north, pretty cheap, small family-run operation, and was relaxed BYOB.
Playing the muni on Tuesday, will report back
I hear if you are going for vibes you should look into Ye Nyne Olde Holes.
Agree with a lot that has been said of Garland. Had a small buddies trip there last year and stayed in single villas near the hard courts.
My advice, play as much golf as you can and bring friends that can keep you entertained. Food/rooms are basic so if you’re dependent on those to make the trip great, you could be disappointed.
We had a great time since we brought a field of the devil’s lettuce and had some epic matches.
Grand Rapids guys, what’s the best barbecue dinner place downtown?
Slow’s
I’ll second Slows, place is awesome.
Hi Michigan friends, there are 4 of us driving from DTW to Forest Dunes next Friday afternoon. I was wondering if there is a better place to spend the night than the Double Tree we have booked in Saginaw. Is there a cool small town closer to Roscommon or a Friday night 6/23 must see ??
Honestly…no. Depending on when you land and how far you want to drive, your best bet might be to just go to Traverse City and do a night there. It’s about the same distance from Traverse City to Roscommon as it is from Saginaw to Roscommon.
Can you stay on-property at FD? That will be your best bet. You could also look at some of the hotels/motels in Houghton Lake or Grayling; they’ll be closer. Grayling has some cool bars and breweries, and the Gates River Lodge has amazing food.
We are staying on property the following night and I think we were trying to save a few bucks by staying off property. I was just looking at Saginaw and there isn’t a lot of excitement for a friday night with 4 dudes!
