Has anyone ever done a stay and play package at Treetops?
yeah I have with those group golfer passes, not worth it in my opinion. i stayed at their hotel on site by the masterpiece course and it wasn’t anything special.
Far better to book stay and play package at Boyne Highlands. Better accommodations and better golf courses.
Checking in from Grand Rapids.
Can’t recommend Pilgrims Run enough.
Where does everybody hit golf balls while it’s cold around here?
Arcadia is a great choice, make sure you play the South course too, I played it last year and it was a treat. I also recommend Pilgrims Run…But play can be very slow so I suggest getting an early tee time, it’s a great Mike Devrie’s design and worth every penny and make sure to introduce yourself to Jeff the head pro, he’s been there for years. But all in all Arcadia is a must play.
Golf Emporium in Greenville. Owner is great and 12 bucks for a heated stall with a large bucket of balls.
Welcome!
I usually go out to Maple Hills. They have a couple options for winter golf. They have heated stalls and simulators you can rent. Both options are pretty expensive and the heated stall range is not all that great. Aside from that it’s an option to get some swings in.
There are a handful of other simulators in the area…X-Golf on 28th is pretty sweet. And Thorneapple Pointe has quite a few simulators set up for the winter.
Oh I didn’t not know about that! That’s a much better deal than Maple hill.
It’s a hike but the guys up there are great - big inside putting green.
Fer sure will be checking that out!
Thanks fellas. Will check out golf emporium sometime. I don’t love banging balls but I’m trying to keep the rust off. X and Thornapple sims are close but always looking for a spot to get in some #reps.
The Emporium on M57 is top notch. Mark and the rest of the staff are all super helpful and friendly. Great facility and the price is right! I’m there just about every weekend during the winter months and even in the summer they keep their range/putting/chipping areas in very good shape.
In 2006 we took a trip and stayed in Battle Creek and played a bunch of courses. We had a blast. We played a course called Yarrow, and now it looks like it doesn’t exist?! Does anyone know what happened? Best course we played that trip.
Looks like it was bought out and turned into a mental health and substance abuse rehab facility.
I could have used some rehab after 36 holes and about 27 beers that day. Shame about the course, though.
Lynx is definitely a great play. First hole is fun with the risk-reward drop-off at 245-ish before the green. We had a number of high school tournaments there where some over-aggressive decisions on my part torpedoed potentially good rounds. Those scores have scarred me, but it’s a course I would love to get back to.
I wasn’t at Watermark yet in 2012…only been there a few years. Completely agree about 14 though - it’s a constant debate among our group if it would help most members’ averages if they could always take bogey on that hole. So tough…
I was really glad i asked the guy in the shop about the first hole…he told me to hit a 220 club…otherwise i probably would have hit driver and been SOL.
I think that will be a course i get back down to this year.
Another option much further south than some of the GR area courses mentioned would be Shepherd’s Hollow in Clarkston, it’s right off of I-75 and has 27 holes. Great track and can give you that “up north” golf feel closer to the greater Detroit area. But it would be a longer initial drive to the course compared to some of the previous options mentioned.
I usually play the Gull Lake courses as I’m on the east side of Kalamazoo. Co-worker that I play with lives in Vicksburg so a lot of Angels Crossing as well. Island Hills is another one I like to play, about 45 minutes south in Centreville.
