That be sick! I’ll have to hit you up!
I got the chance to play meadowbrook this year and can’t recommend it enough. i’ve played dgc, oakland hills south, plum hollow and other private courses but meadowbrook is hands down my favorite
How long have you been a member at Watermark? I worked there throughout college from 08-12. Loved my time there. Playing that course made me so much better. 14 owns my ass though.
Oh this is awesome to hear. My FIL is getting us on at Meadowbrook sometime this summer and I’m super excited to check it out.
if you need a 4th for meadowbrook… let me know i’ll drop everything to go play it again
Grand Rapids here! Cool to see some fellow west-siders on the thread!
Kalamazoo resident. New to the refuge. A lot of west siders in here.
Kzoo, IMO, is highly underrated for its golf scene.
Welcome!
Good places to play in Kzoo? I go over to Gull Lake each year to play all those courses. Absolutely love Bedford Valley!
Grew up in Kalamazoo - great location for golf. A few quick hitters in the immediate area:
Angels Crossing: great value with some really good holes; tough greens if they’re running fast
Milham Park: the full muni golf experience and affordable. Course I grew up on so holds a soft spot in my heart
Heritage Glen: fun track with a good back 9. Couple of quirky holes and the first two are driveable (requires a Tiger line on #2)
Lynx Golf Course: wouldn’t mention it except it does give you a taste of Northern MI golf in spots
Beeches - about 30 minutes west of Kzoo, but fantastic course when I played it back in the day - felt they definitely could be charging more to play there
Moors: private, but if you can snag an invite, play it. Arthur Hills design
You already covered the Gull Lake View options - haven’t played it but heard Stoatin Brae is amazing. Binder park have also heard great things about.
It’s a shame though, the best course in the area (IMO) Yarrow closed down a few years ago. LOVED that place and would have put it up against a lot of courses in the state.
Man writing this is making me miss Michigan golf.
I will have to check those out! Also, I would recommend Stoatin. It’s a very fun course and probably the closest you can get to true links golf around the area! Appreciate the insight, cheers!
I randomly stumbled across Lynx. I really loved it! Trying to find a reason to go back.
Stoatin I played in May last year. The weather sucked but the course was awesome. I’d love to go back late summer when the heather grew back. When I played the heather was still burnt down, which was kinda sick cuz there were so many burnt golf balls. It was like a golf ball grave yard.
14 owns everyone’s ass. Not an easy green!
Trying to put together a quick weekend trip up to Arcadia for this summer. Plan is to drive up Friday night somewhere, zip into Arcadia and play both Saturday, then drive back Sunday. Looking for a course for Sunday to break up the drive back. Prefer to stay as close to the route as possible if anyone has any good suggestions. Also, how fast does Arcadia fill up? Would we be able to throw together a 4some on a Saturday a week or two before or is this best planned a couple months in advance?
My recommendation would be to take the route thru Grand Rapids and play Pilgrims Run or go thru Lansing and play Eagle Eye.
Oh also, you could go thru Ann Arbor and play the U of M course.
Pilgrims run or thornapple point are both good if you take 131 back. I’d suggest booking your tee times as soon as you have your dates locked in. The bluffs course can get pretty slow so I’d factor that in when booking your rounds. I used to sneak off the first tee between 4:30 and 5:30 after the last group went off for the day and I’d usually finish the front between 8 and 9. It sounds like a great trip though the bluffs course has great views of the lake on just about every hole. I haven’t played the south but I’ve heard it’s the better course from an architecture stand point.
I third the Pilgrims Run choice. It would be right on your way and it’s not far off from the 131 exit.
Pilgrims Run it is, seems to be a consensus. Based on the website looks like a perfect course to complete this quick trip.
For Arcadia you need to book months in advance.
