Skyway in Jersey City, nice 9 hole if you’re playing early- later on pace of play is an issue
NYC Metro folks see below for Rock Spring event
Considering trying to walk on at Bethpage with my dad Saturday morning. Thinking I’ll show up at 6AM and hope to get out on Red/Green/Blue/Yellow by 8. Anybody walked on recently?
Playing Mansion Ridge for the first time tomorrow. Looking forward to it , heard good things. Had to scramble around today looking for my cool weather gear, 47 degrees when we tee off
Gonna be chilly tomorrow, I’m teeing off at 9am at Links at Unionvale and was looking for some of my therma gear earlier too haha.
Enjoy the Ridge, it’s a tough track in spots. The starting holes are a bit linksy, then you head into some more parkland areas and then a few holes of mountain golf and that’s all before you hit the back nine. The middle stretch is probably my favorite and then the approach on the finishing hole is pretty crazy. Have fun, stay warm!
Been trying to book online like once a week and no dice. Haven’t tried to walk on but it might come to that just to get on at least one more time before the season ends.
I’ve basically tried every Saturday and Sunday with alerts on my phone set for 6:55PM every week. I have struck out every time since May probably. It stinks! I’ll let you know what it is like trying to walk on at 6AM.
Arrived at 545, was about 6th in line for the walk ups but behind about 59 guys who got tickets / slept over in the parking lot. Earliest time for a twosome was 940 on blue, almost got 940 on green but it got snagged. This place is crazy.
Very enjoyable round though my game was so so, lost my iron swing for about 4-5 holes which made it very difficult. Lots of interesting holes You description was spot on! But I did par the 18th Not much space on run up to the green and the water. Was a bit chilly but my layers did the trick
Good lord, people are animals for those Bethpage tee times this season.
I was freezing at like 9am but it definitely warmed up. Windy as heck tho, playing a linksy course with no trees to block the wind was brutally tough today. Glad you like Mansion Ridge, I’d get out there more but it’s about an hour from me now, I use to live much closer.
Live in the SF bay area and am out here visiting the in-laws. I went out on Tuesday night and got to the parking lot at 10pm and was in the 5th spot. Got off in the second group at 8:40 as a single on Black. They have pushed the first Black Course time back since it is late in the season. One of the guys I played with got there at 4am and was car 11. Course was in good shape and greens were great.
That’s great. How did you play? Had you played black before? Favorite holes? Hardest holes?
I always love playing it. Need to get out there soon this year, thanks for the feedback.
Shot 84 from the whites, index is 3.4, so nothing too great. It was my second time playing so I had some knowledge and one of the guys I played with gave me some good lines off the tees, perhaps a bit too aggressive on some. The stretch from 10-15 is brutal and made 3 doubles (10,12,14). Nothing jumps to mind for me as my favorite hole, also don’t dislike any hole either. I think the par 3s have a nice variety of yardages and looks from the whites. Hitting a perfect drive there feels great as missing the fairway was a definitely take your medicine and punch it down the fairway to 90 yards.
Cross posting again. Last call!!
Any other sickos in the Bethpage parking lot this evening? Things seem to be getting a bit crazier regarding how early to show up. We got here at 3:45 and got spot 6. Come say hi if so, plenty of beer in the cooler.
I played Bethpage Red @ 9:13 today — greens were in PHENOMENAL shape, best greens I putted on all year. Enjoy it if you can (aerating after this weekend) I’d opt for a red tee time over black.
Anyone ever play Bethpage Yellow? I don’t know anything about it, but the architect of my local course did Yellow.
Been discussed here before but there’s a few of us who think Yellow is the 3rd best course at Bethpage. It’s the shortest course but the back 9 (in particular 10-14) are phenomenal holes. They have Tilly’s fingerprints on them. HIGHLY recommend Rob!
Very cool. I gotta make a point to get to Bethpage. I’ll fit it in between my rounds at Yale!
