Roll Call - Metro NYC

Stonebridge greens are absolutely diabolical. Some of the best publicly accessible on Long Island. Tee to green isn’t too tough, can be if you rip driver all day (like me) but the greens can cause havoc. Highly recommend playing it to anyone and everyone. Pace was okay as well. Mega undulations and tiering. Lot of “oh I didn’t know it fell off there” comments. And a more ridiculous thumbprint than I’ve seen anywhere else

i always feel cramped playing stonebridge but i always end up enjoying the round and really like it there. #2 as a lefty gives me nightmares.

Loved number 2, straightforward hole but a nice mound about 280-300 down the fairway And a fun green

grabbed a 910 tee time at Lido tomorrow.

i’ve heard conditions have improved greatly at lido. If you could report back…I used to love playing there.

I will report back

I frequent the range at Lido a lot, but haven’y played it since last year. I hope to hear good news, but I think Lido is in dog shit shape these days.

Played the links at unionvale this morning. Had a great pairing and played in good time with individual carts. Rain made the back nine even tougher but always a great round.

It rained like crazy today.

Its covered in goose crap. I mean there is not a square foot of ground without it. I hate those things.

Tee’d Off on Bethpage Red at 9:36. Finished the round with about 30 seconds to spare before the downpour. I’m going to miss the fast pace once Bethpage gets back to their normal intervals. Onto Black on Monday.

Yeah, there is no money being put into Lido, it’s pathetic. I would love for the town to just blow it up and start over. The layout is ok but every hole is the same: elevated green with a bunker on each side. Typical RTJ design. And they cut it narrow and growth out the rough, it’s a recipe for a miserable round.

Anyone have an open spot somewhere on Monday?

From what I understand, Middle Bay was originally an Alfred Tull design with modifications from Hal Purdy (I think after they sold some land to the High School nearby). Alfred Tull was an associate of Devereaux Emmet’s. I don’t think Middle Bay comes across as a typical RTJ at all. There is some cool nuance and variety in the green complexes, some aerial attacks, some run ups, some flat, but yes, some elevated back to front.

I quite like the course at Middle Bay, and wind is always a factor. Changes things greatly day to day. It’s a bummer they do not typically allow walking, as it’s a perfectly walkable course. I have not been back for a few years for that reason, but would like to make there again this season.

You’re correct about the land. The far end of the high school field and the houses across the street used to be be part of the course.

I don’t understand courses that don’t allow walking. (I get it’s a cart revenue thing). I prefer not to patronize places that don’t allow it.

Lido and Middle Bay are so frustrating, so much potential but both fall so short. Agree that at this point I’d rather them close Lido for a bit and completely redo it.

I haven’t been to Middle Bay since last year but assuming the “clubhouse” is still the trailer, they need to look in the mirror and realize what they are and aren’t. Some holes are in great condition, some in awful. They have major drainage issues on certain pieces of the property. They have a bag drop and load them onto your cart for you but forget to open the shack to get range balls (happened to me a number of times trying to hit balls around 6-7am). I have no problem with them keeping the trailer, being no frills and just being about the golf but as was mentioned before let me walk the golf course. It’s a small piece of property and exceedingly walkable.

Those two places just drive me crazy because you see what they could be.

Genuine thanks for that information on Tull at Middle Bay. I have always been a fan of Bethpage Yellow, which I believe is also Tull. If they continue to allow walking, I will be back and perhaps we can organize a small group. Middle Bay is a great walk and a pretty spot.

Me too. Yellow is a ton of fun. Tull did the “new” holes that created the Yellow course. Thanks to [WillMK5] for the Bethpage map!

Sometime in the 50’s (?), Bethpage had Tull create interior holes between Yellow and Blue. It was originally just the Blue course, 18 holes, but I suppose due to demand, certainly not architectural sanctity, they created a new course, Yellow. There are original Tillinghast Blue holes on the current Blue course (mostly back nine, I think), and the Yellow. For instance, holes 10-14 are from the original Tillinghast Blue course. They. are some of my favorite holes on property.

I used to play it a lot when I lived on LI and always found it so uninspiring, not even taking into account the drainage and goose shit. And endless tramp of flat, dull holes with a few exceptions

Hey all, I got 3 spots left for Tuesday 10:36am at the yellow. Shoot me dm if you wanna join

Played Bethpage Red yesterday and struggled with the driver all day. Good mindset to be in when my next two rounds are:

Bethpage Black - Tomorrow
Bethpage Black - Next Sunday
