As I mentioned in the chat, I broke my Bethpage virginity last week on Red. Loved everything about it. What a gem of a golf course. Want to see em all, especially Black, but could happily play Red all the time.
Such a great course, itās my favorite to play. Iāve played ābetterā courses, but Red is the best. Itās home to my best score ever and itās so easy to walk.
Could not secure a tee time, even by clicking like a madman at 659
Everything was immediately unavailable.
Very frustrating
Love the Red Course. First hole is beautiful. Played Green a ton when I lived on LI (it is the original course on the property). Back then there were no carts so walking only and āeasierā to get one. Got to revisit it a couple of years ago when my nephew got married and still enjoyable. First hole is parallel to nbr 1 on Black and is a smaller mirror image
Red is in my opinion the most fun you can have at Bethpage. The Black is the ultimate test but itās more of a satisfying grind than a fun round of golf. On Red you donāt HAVE to hit driver on except for a few holes (1,9,14,15) to have a chance at scoring, the par 3s have good variety, and the greens are always just below if not as good as Blackās greens.
I suggest the Yellow as the next course after playing the Black. I think the front 9 of Blue is the worst 9 holes of golf in the whole park and Green can be a little rough around the edges (It weaves between alot of dense woods that make me think itās tougher to maintain year round). For the money though youāre getting a good round of golf no matter what course youāre on.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Agree on Red, it is one of my favorite courses around. The tee system has been a disaster for me but it has led me to go play other places. Played my first round at Montauk last Friday morning which turned out to exceed all expectations I had. Played 9 holes at Cherry Creek in the afternoon on the way back home as well. Ended up at Mansion Ridge for the first time on Sunday morning. Decent conditions but close to a 5 hour round. Not sure if I am chomping at the bit to go back.
Personally I rank Green above Yellow. Think the rough around the edges is why I like it more and think the holes are more interesting than Yellow. Agree about Blue though but still better than nothing. Taking out Black I rank them
- Red
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
Was even longer last Wednesday teeing off at 12pm⦠they just arenāt managing that course (mansion ridge) well given the restrictions and peopleās ability to walk the course⦠sad because I thought it was in pretty great shape.
For all you Bethpage sickos, here is the original routing. The original Yellow looks awesome, and you can see which is the original holes still exist.
Thatās a fantastic find, thanks for sharing.
In terms of the current reservation fiasco at Bethpage, itās driving me insane. I understand the overall number of times available is down because of the increased spacing between each, but it also feels like (and maybe this is already known) that theyāre also blocking out certain times on each course to reduce number of people on the property at any given time. I have a hard time believing in a 7 day window there isnt a single slot available, even knowing people are hoarding and canceling later.
I played 9 on Monday morning as a single and when we walked off 18 on Yellow, there wasnāt a single person standing around the starters shack on Yellow or Blue around 930. Certainly looked like they built in a block to let the early groups come off before letting more on.
I didnāt even think about that as a possibility, but that very well could be what they are doing. Iām just hoping that in the coming weeks, as things reopen and people head back to work, itās slightly easier to get a time.
I was expecting the place to be a madhouse when I showed up to check in, there wasnāt a single person in line to pay/check in. And only a small number of people around, yet every time was apparently sold.
It doesnāt add up.
The oddest part to me is the twilight times, as someone who for the longest time played exclusively twilight rounds, I could play whatever course I wanted basically and never a concern about getting a time. Hell, 9/10 times I wouldnāt even run into any one else out there. I guess itās fair that more people are willing to play twilight now, but youāre telling me there isnāt a single twilight time available on the entire property for 7 days? Iām not buying it.
Iāve been playing 9 holes early (infant at home) and finished on Blue last week at 9am. The parking lot was only 20% full. When we teed off at 7am on the back, there wasnāt any group going off the front on blue. Granted it was 45 and windy, but I thought it would have been more crowded.
Agreed - the amount of people on property is not matching up with how difficult it is to get a slot.
does anyone know when twilight starts at bethpage? assuming itās the usual 4pm, but canāt seem to find it anywhere
Still the usual 4pm
I like Francis Byrne (better biarritz than yale), Hendricks, Rock Spring, Bethpage, and Harbor Links
Welcome to the community @TheBabyDraw !
This is a golf forum, right? Kind of confused by all the different threads
I have a tee time at Bethpage Red on Friday at 648am. I have 3 open spots. Send me a DM if you are interested.
