In general, car would be best. Where will you play?
If going to PI, you will def need a car.
Getting to the sandbelt courses in a massive pain, but hire cars and overnight parking can also be expensive. Depends a bit on the other stuff you are doing. If you just had golf for a couple of days together, you could hire a car from one of the CBD offices (cheaper than at the airport) which could make sense…
I think there is a good market in the future sometime for a Sandbelt Express golf bus service… I am going to copyright that idea
Playing Metro and RM back to back days, so if anything I was thinking of doing PI the day before the golf starts to only do a short term rental
Didn’t think about there being services in the city to only get a car for a few days, I’ll look into that as it sounds like a great solution. Thanks for the tip
Metro is pretty close to Huntingdale train station, still prob a 15min walk though. RM is too far to walk from a station with a golf bag though I’d say, Uber might be a better option.
For PI it isnt a tough drive or anything, but if doing the Penguin Parade just remember it is a night thing, so will be a reasonably long day, depending on the other plans that day. CBD to The Nobbies is a couple of hours at least.
Very helpful, thanks
I played 7 courses using public transport from the CBD. Royal Melbourne is 40-45 mins to Cheltenham then $10 AU for a 2 mile Uber. Metro is 20-25 mins train to Huntingdale then a walk.
Regarding Phillip Island - I used these guys for the Great Ocean Road and would use them again. They pick up from various hotels around the CBD
Will give this a look as well, thank you
Anyone utilised this service from Toyota? https://www.toyota.com.au/kinto
Was considering it when we’re there but we’re staying in Brighton so should be right to just use Uber for the courses we’re heading to
At the risk of coming across as big-headed… Yarra Yarra has been added to the line-up.
(THANK YOU @seskis
)
Constructing Melbourne golf itinerary. Five days. Seven rounds. What would you choose?
Assume access.
Dont worry about price.
Have a listen to Australian Golf Passport on Apple Podcasts
It’s some outstanding work by @ScottW and @MatthewM of this parish and will set you on the path.
Just Melbourne, or Peninsula’s (Mornington and Bellarine) can be included?
All of those please.
There is a lot to choose from and its tough.
As Slicer said, Aus Golf Passport is a good start, but just listing them out off the top…once you have done the two RM’s, KH and Metro or Vic, you have three left and you prob wouldnt be disappointed with any of them;
RM West - must
RM East - must
Kingston Heath - must
Metro - probably must
Victoria
Peninsula Kingswood
National (three courses to choose from) (Mornington)
Portsea (Mornington)
Barwon Heads (Bellarine)
13 Beach (Beach) (Bellarine)
Have the following booked
RM West & East — same day 36 holes
KH
Victoria
Pk North & South — same day 36 holes
Wanna add two Mornington and two Bellarine.
I’ve not played any Nash, so would leave that for others to say if two there is the best option. Portsea is a good fun course though. Bellarine I would do BH and 13th Beach.
St Andrews Beach?
Yarra Yarra?
Commonwealth?
I think the National Old is an amazing sneaky good layout. (Pro tip : check out the views of the Ocean from the back tees on the first few holes) A couple of the par five will leave you thinking about strategy as they are deceptively challenging to commit to your lines.
The Dunes and SAB are both great challenges. Its hard to pick only two in many parts of The Sandbelt. Its jam packed and all so close together.
Second pro tip:
Im still getting infringement camera speeding tickets in the mail from my trip a month ago. If driving they have zero tolerance for speeding. The cameras are everywhere and its pricey to say the least.
Its tough to do this schedule as:
— overseas visitors can only play certain days
— weekends mainly members only
— three pockets of courses
— wanna get mix of oceanside and nonoceanside courses
— many of the courses have very nice dormy setups
