Roll Call: Massachusetts

100% agreed on all of this. CC Nat’l is open to guests of the Wequassett Inn, which is Chatham Bars top competition for a swanky wedding in the part of the Cape. I have never heard anything great about Chatham Seaside Links, but it is right there, so might be worth a try.

I did see the few privates out there but figured there would be no way on them. I’m likely to be by myself or with one other so slow pace could be even more brutal. Considering I’m either sitting around in a hotel or playing golf I think anything I pick isn’t going to be the worst option.

Chatham Seaside is a really fun walk and easy to get on early in the day, but nothing to write home about. Highland Links is a must play if you can get out there too, again early AM is your best bet as a single if you can make it out to Truro. CV definitely one of the best public 18 options, but there’s also 2 good public 18 holers in Dennis and another 2 in Yarmouth, Bass River and Bayberry Hills. Another course to play before it’s gone for good, thanks to a solar farm, is Cape Cod Country Club in Falmouth. Come to think of it, there’s so much good public golf on the Cape you can’t really go wrong. Good luck

The overrated was in reference to all the hype around the course and how excited I was to play it. The classic CC comment was more for about things I’ve read and heard them say about not moving land etc. As for playing them I’m looper at TCC so I get to play every week. I have some family that are members at Winch as well as looping there when I was in middle school/ early high school. And OS my neighbor is member so I just took advantage that lol.

Seaside Links is pretty ass. Like 7/9 tee shots are totally blind and so far down hill that you just spray and pray. They have mats for tee on two holes, but the kicker is they’re too hard to stick a tee in. Love a good pitch-and-putt style executive course, but that’s just not it.

Highland Links is awesome, but just keep in mind that its about 30 miles from Chatham, and the majority of that trip is in really brutal, one lane, National Seashore traffic. It might be worth it to you if you’re looking to play true links, but that’s what you’re up against.

I am a member at Captains and used to be a member at Cranberry Valley. Both are good Brian Silva / Geoffry Cornish tracks, but I prefer Captains. I’ve actually found the pace of play at Captains to be a bit better than Cranberry as well, probably because it’s 36 holes instead of 18 and they’re able to spread out play more. Happy to set up a time if you want to play over there.

But yeah, those are likely your best options considering where you’ll be staying.

Looking like Highlands I’m probably going to line up on the Friday since I like to play really early and wouldn’t mind the slow shore drive back. Captains or CV looks like it might work out Saturday if I can make it work.

The drive back from Truro to Chatham on Friday won’t be too bad, as the traffic will all be coming the other way. If you have the time and the inclination, Chequesset in Wellfleet is also a fun 9-holer open to the public, and it is on your way back from Truro. Quite a few Refugees swear the Highland Links/Chequesset combo is the best public 18 holes on the Cape.

nice!

Another option if you’re a bit limited on time on Saturday morning would be Blue Rock. It is right across the street from Bass River in Yarmouth. 18 hole, par 3 course. You’ll use almost every club in your bag (there is a 260 yard hole), and is typically in good shape (although haven’t played this season)

Love Blue Rock! Played in a league there one summer and it was the most fun I think I’ve had on a golf course

Reporting back after yesterday. Place was awesome. Clubhouse/amenities are unreal. The views are insane. I want to go back and stay in one of the cabins and do 36. Course was solid, I don’t really have anything bad to say. Thought it could have been in my top 5 after the first couple holes but you kind of realize it’s a bit of a one trick pony. Just a million bunkers everywhere. Still very much looking forward to a return trip.

I loved the drivable 4! The mounds in the fairway are insane. 3’s and 5’s were great. I think 13 is my favorite golf hole I’ve ever played.

Just ran down about 40 posts, many talking about the Cape… so is that a yes to 2022 Event… anybody…

Hey a heads up about the Boston Golf & Social + Grueter Golf event at Hooper this Saturday. A few spots left, DM if interested - its gonna be sweet.

Greetings MassHoles,

I’m an Illinoisan Nest Member that will be spending a few days in Boston next week. Sadly, no golf this time around. Me and couple buddies are staying near Bay Village area. Anyone have some restaurant, bar, or activity recommendations in the city? We are definitely seeing a few games at Fenway.

P.S. How fast will I get beat up if I try a shitty Boston accent?

You gotta go to Piccohttps://www.piccoboston.com/

The owner is a golf sicko like the rest of us!

Pizza and Ice Cream place ran by a golf sicko? That will be my first stop!

Lots of good options but by neighborhood I’d say:

South End/Bay Village: South End Buttery, Franklin Cafe, Picco

Fenway: Sweet Cheeks, Timeout Market (food hall with a ton of options and a Trillium brewery location)

North End: Giacomo’s (worth the hype but only if you go at end of night so they don’t try to turn your table), Carmelina’s, Locale, North End Grille (for breakfast)

Back Bay: Buttermilk & Bourbon

Lol, don’t do this!

Great suggestions by @astrang! In the south end I’d add Toro. Also, for a truly unique experience go to Jacques’ Cabaret. It’s a drag bar / cabaret show…
