Haven’t played the Orchards but also frequent the rest of your list…I live in CT at the moment but am looking to buy a house back in western mass within the year. Have a work “league” that plays at Gillette Ridge and bounce between public MA/CT courses for the most part. Any love for Ledges?
Only played it once. Would definitely like to give it another go though. I don’t remember it being an easy walk, which I prefer to do, but I do remember some fun holes
Have an 11:50 at George Wright this Friday if anyone wants to join.
I have never played the ledges but I hear when it is in good shape it is a fun course. I used to love Gillette Ridge but the bunkers were a nuclear wasteland.
Hey guys I live in Lowell and play green meadows in Hudson NH mostly. my golf league just moved to Patriot in Bedford because green meadows sold out to Amazon ugh. looking to join Mount Pleasant in Lowell in the next few years!
If you are applying to Mt. Pleasant, do it a year or two before think you are ready. They have a very limited membership size and you can expect to be waitlisted.
Thanks for the heads up! I just need to get through my wedding this December and am going to look into it more. I would love to play in the Cities tournament someday!
So went out and played Ledges yesterday. It’s in pretty good shape, greens were punched but were fast. Managed to walk 18 in just under 3 hours which was nice. Forgot how much fun a lot of those short par 4s are. And as someone who doesn’t hit it far, it was still fun to hit less than driver a few times. $33 a pretty good deal too.
Have an upcoming high school match at Concord this weekend and wondering if anybody had a “scouting report” on the course or maybe some tips or something I really don’t know. We play 9 hole matches and normally will go off the front 9. Also, Had our first match of the year last weekend and went full icarito and lost 7,8,9 to lose 2 up so if anybody has some match play tips that would be appreciated.
Haven’t played Concord. However, HS matches are tough because the show can be over real quick with it being only a 9 hole match. Ordinarily, I would say that being somewhat generous in the beginning can be beneficial in two ways. 1. You will find out real quick if your opponent reciprocates in terms of the putts 2. Your opponent does not get the opportunity to build momentum with the flatstick. Having said that, with it only be 9 holes, you have to take as many holes as you can quickly. With the match setup, the key is to literally fairway and green your opponent to death. Even if that means taking one less club to be in better position to approach the green from the right spot / angle, do it. It is VERY tough for people to play a match against someone that continues to hit GIR on every hole. Easier said than done - understood. But in a 9 hole match, keep it simple and don’t beat yourself with poor mistakes. Good Luck
Concord is exceptional and very challenging. The stretch from 2-6 might be as good as any around. Greens wont be as fast as summer. You have to keep the ball straight. On the aforementioned stretch (2-6) par plus a half a stroke will win most holes in high school.
#1 is a getable Par 5.
#2 is a murderous 4. If you come out of 1 & 2 even, your ahead of game.
#3 is a difficult 4, requires a big carry to get level approach. Re-designed green is challenging.
#4 is another hard 4. Usually driver is too much off the tee. Approach has to land on green or cascades downhill.
#5 is a little easier 4 though multi-level green can challenge.
#6 is a 190-210 straight downhill 3. Requires GIR for par.
#7 is a short 4 but hard, hard driving hole. Hybrid/3-wood leaves 125 in. No gained advantage with driver.
#8 is short 4, water on left side of green
#9 is short 3
Great synopsis. Front 9 at Concord is a challenge AND a tough walk, but so much fun. Nice to have a HS match there!
Any Cape or south shore folks have thoughts on Cranberry Valley in Harwich? I’m playing there next week on the recommendation of a friend. Looks nice, but my friend is quite a bit better than I am, so I hope I don’t get slaughtered.
CV is a very solid public course, you should enjoy it. It’s not overly penal by any means, play your normal tees and you will be fine.
Thanks. I’m looking forward to it. Love playing courses for the first time, even though it rarely works out well on the scorecard.
Hey All,
First time Long time refugee residing in Dorchester. My usual golf buddies are dropping like flies as the kids keep coming(Selfish) so if anyone’s up for a round let me know!
Just moved to N. Quincy from DC, would be happy to meet some new golf buds around here.
I’ll be on Cape Cod next Tuesday and am planning to play Bass River around 10:30. Anyone want to join in?
Played Highland links in Truro Saturday, 40 mph winds and we had to had to walk because the person running the pro shop wasn’t there yet for our 8:30 tee time, interesting experience and glad I did it but most likely a one and done situation.
Really? I would play it every day if it wasn’t a 2 hour drive for me.
