Glad I checked in to see this again…

Straight from the book of I am freaking moron I bent my 8 iron shaft of a tree root recovering from my big right miss.

So, since I’ve never needed club repair before.

Where should I go to get a new Project X 6.0 steel shaft put on?

I live north of Boston but I am willing to drive for a deal.

PS I made bogey, which I am proud of.

Are there any driving ranges open in Mass yet?

Nope, nothing yet as far as ranges. Just courses.

I go to Joe & Leigh’s at Pine Oaks down in Easton. Off the beaten path, but one of the best customer service places for golf in the state.

I know Stone Meadow is open based on their website, but I haven’t been yet to confirm.

Went to Stone Meadow yesterday I can confirm they are open. Also can confirm
I’ve lost all progress with my driver!

I drove by Golf Country in Middleton this morning and people were hitting balls there, FYI.

I’ve had good luck with Golf and Ski in Hudson NH. Haven’t had a ton of stuff done there but the turnaround has been relatively quick.

Rt 1 north of Boston or like 495/93 North of Boston? There is Ace of Clubs in Saugus. PGA Tour Superstore in Peabody should be able to handle a simple reshaft, as would Golf Galaxy in Burlington, though some people stay away from the big box stores for clubwork. Golf and Ski in Hudson or Greenland are good.

I live near route 1, Malden, and I am trying to avoid the big box stores. I don’t trust the person working there would know what they are doing. I will check out Ace of Clubs. Thanks.

I played Crumpin-Fox for the first time over the weekend, and it was … fine? I feel like it gets an awful lot of attention for a course in nice shape with a pretty average layout.

I got a great deal, so I’m not upset or anything, but it was a bit disappointing.

Simple answer is that Crumpin-Fox is not ā€œpretty averageā€:

There are 300 public golf courses in Massachusetts.

Is it in the Top 10? Maybe, maybe not. I could make a case for it being near the bottom of that list. Is it in the Top 20? Probably. But again, I could probably find 20 courses that have an argument for having a ā€˜better’ layout. Top 30? I really don’t think I could come up with 30 better public courses in Massachusetts, on an objective basis.

So even if it’s the 30th best public course…that makes it top 10% in the state…not really ā€œaverageā€.

I would say that it’s also a really interesting case, because it is so ridiculously out of style that nobody likes it right now…but Crumpin-Fox was The Buck Club of ~1985. Field of dreams for a golf enthusiast. Masterwork of an up-and-coming architect. Sold as ā€œthe nextā€ Pine Valley. And this is where it is today.

Ace of Clubs is legit. One of the best fitters around. Not sure if he’ll handle the repair/reshaft but worth a call or email.

For a fitting, can’t beat Ace of Clubs.

I am taking lessons at GolfTec (once they open again), but I will forgo fitting with them and go to Ace of Clubs. I made it my golf goal to drop to a 15 handicap and as a present get fitted for a set, i hope i get there.

Do they do fittings without purchase? I like to buy used clubs.

FYI I am taking the club to my Dads club to get fixed by the pro.

Not quite sure–you’ll have to take a look or give a call.

Shoutout to @FringeLife for being a fantastic playing partner at Taconic today!

First time playing with a fellow refugee, definitely not the last, cant wait to get out there with more of yall!

(he took much better pictures than the shite one i snapped above lol)
