I’ve played 3 places since reopening. One place took things exceedingly seriously, including face masks required until you tee off. Second place seemed pretty serious as well, although not to the level of masks on the tee. The last place, I thought the golfers weren’t taking things as seriously, but nothing to the extent of drinking beers in the lot after golf

Someone should call MassGolf and narc on Unicorn. Not something I’d normally be in favor of, but per @iparrajorge this is how we will lose golf again!

I’ve also heard not great reports about Unicorn, specifically that they have started their leagues back up. It would seem that the 15-minute interval and no-congregating rules would defeat the purpose of a league…

So I emailed the management company and this was their response, seems like a little like pass the buck, but at least they are being responsive. I will give them credit for that.

Hi Joseph.

Thank you very much for reaching out to us to let us know about your concerns. We are operating on the State guideline of 15 minute tee times, and are only booking and allowing 4 groups of foursomes per hour onto the course. Our problem is every group or every player doesn’t show up exactly 15 minutes before their tee time, and sometimes the group playing the 1st, 2nd or 3rd hole takes too long playing the hole and backs up the 1st tee, so although we are running on 15 minute tee times, we can’t always guarantee the exact time a customer books is the time we can get them off the 1st tee, but we will continue to try and make that work better.

Our second problem we are having is the Governor’s mandate isn’t allowing us enough staff to work yet – the mandate we are given is a Golf Professional and a “security” person, and grounds staff is allowed to maintain the course. We are trying to do the best we can with two staff as requested but that leaves us short for rangers and starters to manage the parking lot on a constant basis, and to ranger the course on a constant basis in order to control pace of play.

We are hoping this changes very shortly with opening up some of the economy on Monday we are hoping that golf will also be allowed to start back with our full normal staffing.

I will advise the manager at Unicorn of these concerns and that he needs to keep a much closer eye on the parking lot and spacing. Your concerns are my concerns and we will work to resolve these issues, and hopefully have more staff to do it with shortly.

Sincerely,

Kevin

I will read about outdoor transmission today. Thanks for the tip.

@DannyNoonansPutter and I saw a few guys sitting in the Brookmeadow and we politely asked them what the fuck were they doing and suggested they stop so they don’t ruin it for everybody.

Other than that I haven’t seen anybody else really breaking the rules. All the courses i’ve played have been following them.

If they have 15 min intervals, and by hole 3 they are having back up problems…

Expected nothing different from Sterling frankly

This happened to me at Highfields last weekend. They legitimately did have 15 min tee times, we flew through the first 4 holes in about 40-45 mins, then waited on every tee after that. Often 3 groups to a hole.

It was infuriating.

Both pinehills and bayberry were following the rules. Only issues I’ve run into are random people out for a nice leisurely stroll along the course. With zero awareness the are holding us up and putting themselves in danger.

I’ve never been a guy to stick my nose into someone else’s business but this was too egregious to ignore. Three guys sitting in folding lawn chairs hauling beers with their tailgates open like it was a Sunday afternoon in Foxboro.

Imagine saying that in the Franklin Park parking lot

I was hoping you’d have an inside scoop but you are back in the burbs. I’d imagine city parks crew is basically hanging out there to make sure no one else does.

Park a cop there full time

I wanted to say something to the guys at Unicorn last night, but I don’t think that would have ended well. Setting the scene:

Skinny fat 30 something in preppy NLU gear approaches VW golf and opens trunk to place bag in and change shoes. Notices group of 8 250 pound men drinking beer in parking lot behind a row of pickup trucks in clear violation of state rule. Annoyed Skinny fat guy decides to yell “don’t be selfish! go home and be safe”. Group of men slam 2nd or 3rd beer and …

I don’t think it would have ended well for me.

Good old Unicorn.

Hit my first golf shots at Stoneham Oaks behind the Ice Rink.

The only course I’ve played so far is Newton Comm (same management group). They definitely had hand sanitizer out, and were doing 20m tee times.

Everything seemed to be spaced out pretty well. We caught up to the group in front of us (2 of us, 4 of them), and they let us play through and we didn’t really see much of anyone else the whole time. But it wasn’t the greatest conditions, so fewer folks on course anyway. We had people on both sides of our tee time - got to the tee when they were on the fairway, and I think we saw the folks behind us on the tee when we got to the green.

Well that is encouraging. I am going to take this as an isolated incident and soldier on, but probably not at Unicorn for a while.
