Any room for 1 more on 4/15? Couldn’t make the original date but can make the new one. Would love to #getinvolved as a Barnstable Golf member!
There probably will be. We had a couple people who made their charity donation to lock in their spot but then cancel due to the weather. They are going to have first crack at getting their spots back, so add your info under the alternate line.
@TheMassHacker are the alternates in? I see we’ve moved on the google sheet
Yup. Sorry, sending out an email this afternoon. The three people who signed up as alts so far are in because I’ve heard from 3 people who can’t make the dates work. Still waiting on the 6 people who opted out but still donated to see if they want back in.
Had a late drop due to a family emergency. If anyone wants to join us tomorrow, have 1 open spot in the 10:03 tee time.
Friends down south, any recommendations on courses between/around Marshfield and Weymouth? Looking for something fun, playable, and reasonably priced.
South Shore Country Club. (Hingham) Pembroke CC. (Pembroke, naturally) North Hill (Duxbury, 9 holer. Might be toughest opening 3 holes around). Green Harbor (Marshfield) Dependiing on your allotted time it might be a bitttt out of the way but DW Field (Brockton)
All walkable. All affordable.
Weathervane in Weymouth is an interesting 9 holer to consider as well. South Shore is the best around imo.
South Shore can get to a snails pace just FYI. Good track though
I’m a big practice guy, a range rat if you would. Have been living in the Boston area for the last 6 years, and I’m still unsure if I’ve found the best range/practice area around. Most of my golf is played on the South Shore.
My top 5 at this moment are the following;
- Harmon Golf Academy
- Pine Hills
- Granite Links (purely for the views, and vibes)
- Widows Walk
- Atlantic Country Club
Anyone have any suggestions or have favorites of their own?
The Range in Hingham down by derby isn’t bad. Decent amount of stalls, including a covered area for bad weather days. Solid restaurant attached to it. Not sure if they’ve reopened the short game area yet though. It had gotten torn out last season.
KOHR Golf in Natick is great. I live on the north shore but if I am really trying to get my game dialed in I go there. Trackman range at every stall, putting green. If I lived closer i’d invest in their membership
I live down the street from Kohr. Great facility. I thought about getting a membership at one point, but I couldn’t justify the price, especially given the hours.
Just looked up the pricing and it is very aggressive. Yikes.
No kidding, that’s a little steep. In the ballpark of the under 40 membership at my club.
And its starting again… struggling to get tee times with every course being booked for this weekend already. I was able to snag an early tee time at Newton Commonwealth, never played is it any good? Its pretty cheap $47 walking so I hope its okay!
It’s got some real good holes and some real bad ones. 2 of them have signs telling you you’ll be kicked off if you try to drive the green.
If early enough, you’ll move but if tee sheet is full it’ll be a slow go.
Lots of people will trash it, but your opinion will largely depend on your expectations going into the round. I’ve played in a weeknight league there for nearly a decade, so here’s my take: It’s a great course for a league because the location is convenient for people in the city and nearby suburbs and the maintenance staff keeps it in great shape considering the volume and quality of play. However, on the weekends, I play elsewhere when I want an 18-hole round.
The course is short, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Nearly every lie will be uphill, downhill, above your feet, or below your feet. Greens are small, and I’d say about half are relatively flat. There are two holes (11 and 13) with forced layups. Most of the par-3 holes have either one or two places to miss. The greens can run a little slow, but they generally roll well for a muni. The GM is a great guy who does the best he can with a limited budget.
During the winter, they cleared out a ton of overgrowth, cut back several trees, and cleaned up a lot of areas (pond banks, creek banks, etc.) that had been ignored for a while. The course looks great, and everything should grow in nicely once the rain stops.
If you remember that it’s a $47 course in the city and don’t show up expecting conditions similar to The Country Club, you’ll enjoy your round.
I am 6:10 am so I am assuming 2nd group off, should i rip driver at the green and if get kicked off tell them never lay up???
I feel kind of bad for this guy and apologies if he is here in the Nest, but man, what are you doing here.
And really this is on the USGA. How do you let someone into a US Open qualifier with this kind of GHIN history?
He posted one competitive round 9 years ago and it’s still in his last 20! He’s playing in a qualifier with guys who have actually played in the US Open, not to mention a number of guys who have won the MGA fourball (including last week’s winners). What are we doing here USGA?
