Given what I heard about Red Tail’s condition the last couple of years, there’s much more room to go up than down.
I love a couple of the public tracks in the northern suburbs – Gannon Golf in Lynn and The Meadow in Peabody. Great courses through rocky hills. Do not try to walk The Meadow though. It’s hard enough for the first 10 holes and then holes 11-17 are on a separate tract of land.
Everyone has given good advice for courses but one that I didn’t see on the list that was actually in the Crash Course pod that I play regularly and love it every time I go out is George Wright in Hyde Park. Best course in Boston in my opinion and relatively inexpensive. Also a Donald Ross design.
You know what’s a fun course? Cape Cod Country Club. And wouldn’t you know it, we’re having an outing there this Saturday and we have 1 spot open. DM to get involved.
Absolutely gutted that I can’t make it out to CCCC this weekend for the Roost. Local pointers for all that can
1: You only need 200-210 off the tee. Rough on the right is no fun
2: For players with less distance, trying to run one on the front isn’t a horrible idea. Front bunker isn’t bad
3: For god sakes just don’t hit it in the cross bunker
4: Don’t be long, front of the green is wide open (but it will probably be soft, in the summer run everything up)
5: Hug right on drive
6: Cutting the corner not for novices. Don’t miss the green right or long
7: Driver if you can hit it 300 or your 190 club, nothing in between
8: If you can hit it 290-300, make sure you don’t end up on the downslope in the rough. If you hit it 240, make sure you don’t end up in the gulley on the left with a blind shot
9: Beware of false front
10: Using the hill on the right on the approach to funnel back in is awesome if the pin sets up for that
11: Beware of hole shape, dont hit it too long right
12: Dont make fun of people hitting driver on a par 3
13: If you reach the hill, you have a wedge or 9 iron into a par 5
14: Aim for the front of the green and pray
15: Long is no good, short is no good
16: This used to be a par 4 until some greedy bastard put in condos
17: You could land a plane here
18: Driver if you can hit it 300 or your 200 club, nothing in between. This green is torturous and built to have someone miss a two footer to loose a match
Hate that I’m going to miss and event at my home course also! Was looking forward to my first nest meetup. Ditto everything Kendrick said.
Played there Friday and the greens are really starting to come together.
Don’t get fooled by the red and white flags. They’re not an indication of hole location.
Hope you all enjoy!
Played Robert T. Lynch over the weekend and the course was in bad shape. It was such a let down. Fairways were so water logged you moved and sank all at once.
Oh man, that’s a bummer but unsurprising in early April. Lynch can be a fun/cheap track in the right conditions. I’ve played Beverly Golf and Tennis a few times and the course is in great shape for April. They totally redid the first green (it was a bit too much of a Ross-y severe slope that will now play more fair in the summer, but still catch a long iron). It opens in May, so temp green for now. The 18th fairway is also waterlogged. Other than those two issues, good shape for April
For the last batch of US Open tickets tomorrow does anyone know what time of day they go on sale? I want to give myself a chance at getting them without paying resell.
I am not sure if it is a capacity issue or if the resellers are just all gobbling up the tickets quickly, but it was pretty alarming how difficult it was to get tickets during the last release. I spent probably 90 minutes on the site and got completely shut out for every day.
