Used to live in the area and Blue Mash was probably my favorite course that I played while there. I really enjoyed the different types of holes throughout the course, especially on the front. And it was nice to have a distinct difference between the tee box positioning. (Blues vs. Whites for me)
Longtime lurker, first time poster. Member at UMD, 12 handicap. If anyone is ever interested in a round LMK! Also happy to travel around the DMV too…
I’ve been meaning to ask the MD Refugees if anyone has been lucky enough to play (or even really to see) this super exclusive private course, allegedly built and owned by Albert Lord (former CEO of Sallie Mae). The sparse internet articles I’ve found call it “Anne Arundel Manor.” Golf Courses: A look at the Most Exclusive in America
I drive around this area for work occasionally and the first time I saw it from the road, the clouds parted and a beam of light shone down and a chorus of angels sang hallelujah. I may have even shed a tear. It looks absolutely gorgeous and perfect, and I’ve never seen a golfer on it (although I’ve seen grounds crew members there literally every time).
It’s in “South County” in Anne Arundel, and it looks like such a cool layout from aerials and what I’ve seen from the road. Apparently phones aren’t allowed on the course, so very few photos exist. I’d imagine this post may even be considered by some to be in bad taste. But I’ve never been known for my taste and I really just want to share my droolings with some fellow golf nuts.
So has anyone been lucky enough to play here??
Welcome Castor! Or is this really Sean Archer???
How is UMD playing these days? I went to school there and worked at the course but it’s been years since I’ve played it. Are they still considering building dorms on some of the course and making it a 9 holer?
I had heard stories this existed but haven’t heard much more about it. Haven’t heard of anybody that’s played it and think it gets very few rounds each year.
I know so little about this part of MD, never even heard of this course. Agreed the SAT images look sickk. I grew up on eastern long island, one of the best places to drive around and see courses you’ll (likely) never sniff, lol.
Anyone around to play Saturday? I booked a two-some for 7:59a at Rocky Point. Hoping to get it in and back to Fed before it gets too crazy.
During the summer, when it gets firm (assuming no rain), it is a really fun track. With that said, there isn’t as much $$$ going into the course as needed, so some area, such as bunkers, have suffered.
Re:dorms, there has been a lot of noise on building intramural fields and add’l parking lots on the course. That has been mostly noise thus far but the threat does exist…
I love the quote from the article “I hate rules,” he said. “There won’t be any rules. … Well, there will have to be some rules. You can’t take your car onto the fairway.”. Then proceeds to list that phones are banned. Like thats a freakin rule and its not driving a car on the fairway so i say the man is a liar.
Ok. Also… how hard would it be to get in a twilight jump on the course at the road hole in or two before you’re found out.
The thought has crossed my mind for sure. But, considering who owns the course, I’d imagine the they have some insane security measures built in. Motion activated cameras, guard dogs, snipers in the trees…
If you have enough scratch to build an $18m course on a whim, I’m basically assuming that this is your typical weekend activity:
For all we know, since I’ve never seen a golfer there, it could be some elaborate trap…
The threat still is there, but haven’t heard much in the last few months. Played there 2 weeks ago and it is what it is. Still the best public course inside the DC beltway but with a little more money could be really good. Right now the 35$ walking rate cannot be beat, dormant bermuda a mud ball every now and then, and solid greens.
Was supposed to play Woodlands tomorrow at 10:20. They called me this morning and said they would still be closed from the snow. Did Rocky do the same to you?
Oh no, really!? Thanks for the heads up. I just called to confirm my time at RP, so we’re good to go @Kyle.W . Said they re-opened Rocky 2 days ago, might be cart-path only, but they’ll be ready to go in the AM
Yeah I was surprised. Even tried our local muni in Arnold and they still have the back 9 closed. Hoping we don’t get much rain tomorrow night so we can get out Sunday
Confidential
So I got the chance to play here a few years ago. It has a single (one) member. It gets a couple of hundred total rounds a year.
It’s a total secret and the owner wants it that way. Not many people in Maryland know it exists. For example, there is a private club about 10 minutes away that gets a lot of play. If I play with someone from that club, I usually ask if they have heard of Arundel Manor. Very few have and they usually live under 20 minutes away from it! And are very active golfers! Pretty wild stuff.
Anyways hope I don’t get offed for sharing some pics.
Wow looks like a ton of fun. Thanks for sharing!
Dude that’s awesome! Really cool that you were able to play and thanks for sharing the pics. If we find out @stinger10 meets an unfortunate early demise, we’ll know why. We appreciate your sacrifice and service.
The course looks like a bear, but so pure. Carved out of the woods with some gnarly forced carries. I may or may not have used Google Earth to measure some of the carries from the tips- looks like some are 280+. And from the aerials it’s tough to see how much elevation comes into play but the pics put it in perspective.
Thanks again man! Let me know if you get another invite and uh, need a 4th
Its cool, very pristine. Definitely has funky holes though. Some very good ones too.

That was unwatchable
He is hands down the worst coach in the country
