Roll Call: Maryland

Have two spots at East Potomac tomorrow (5/22 @ 6:50am) if anyone is interested. LMK.

Following up on this. Talked with someone at the course yesterday in the pro shop and supposedly the MSGA is struggling to rate the course since there are no bunkers, bigger greens, course is longer, and multiple combo tees. They came out on May 7th and haven’t given Eisenhower any results/numbers yet.

Me to the MSGA…

That seems like a complete whiff. Isn’t there a formula for how they rate these things? Shows how far these organizations still have to go when having a course with no bunkers confounds them.

For those who subscribe, there’s a really great piece in the latest golfer’s journal on the gibson island golf course written by Tom Coyne. I had never known about it before, however it looks like everything on the island including the golf is private though.

Yeah, Gibson Island Club is a Raynor/Macdonald 9-holer. Apparently a total gem.

Playing University of Maryland tomorrow, totally forgot it existed. Has anyone played there recently?

Last summer

Lots of play. Not bad conditions, just lots of divots and filled tee times

Today ended up being maybe the nicest day of the year for golf. Glad I played.

I play there pretty regularly and love it. I haven’t been since we got over 3" of rain this past week, but normally it’s in pretty good shape. There are a few holes that will probably be a little soggy.

Heading down to ocean city next week, playing Rum Pointe, Links at light house sound, eagles landing, and Man O War, hoping for good course conditions and great weather! Hit em straight!

Im thinking about getting the twilight membership at umd. Played there last fall and absolutely loved it, live in DC and it seems the most accessible good course. How much standing around is there usually on weekend afternoons?

It’s usually not too bad at all. There are a couple league nights so I would join or plan around those times. Also the First Tee plays occassionally so that can definitey back things up. The nice thing though is that the layout makes it easy to skip around to different holes. But for the most part, very good pace and other fun members to pair up with.

Anyone play run pointe, lighthouse sound, or eagles landing lately? We are heading down at the end of the week for some rounds, fingers crossed for great conditions. Thanks and hit em straight

Conditions are great right now! We haven’t had much rain, although some in the forecast this week. Greens have been super firm in South Point (Rum Pointe, OCGC, Eagles Landing), but not sure about Lighthouse. Enjoy!

That’s great news!!! Thank you!!

KVV - just looked back at this message board after a very long time. Would love if we could get out to play at Eagle’s Nest some time. We moved back to Baltimore after a long time in DC and are out there a lot more.

If anyone is in the DMV area, I highly recommend spending a few hours checking out the U.S. Girls Junior that’s currently happening at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase.

I’m volunteering a few days this week (I know, I know) and so far it’s been a blast. The players are awesome, the atmosphere is super laid back, and it’s been fun watching these kids play a very old, strategic golf course.

There are no tickets. Just show up and enjoy it!
