Was the only one in my group to make it over the bridge this morning during that standoff to play queens town. Had the place to myself and got rounds on both the River and Lakes in under 5 hours. Weather was rough but both courses were in great shape.
Had an 8am on the River this morning and couldn’t get over the bridge. Ended up playing Timbers. Got rained on the first 4 holes then sun until 17 when we got hailed on.
It was wild, I got around most of the traffic via college to sandy point, and the. Got jammed up on the bridge and a couple SWAT vans flew by. Everything aside,it was a great day out there, the $45 replay on the lakes made the $130 rate on the River worth it.
Very jealous. River is in prime condition right now.
Has anyone heard about “dynamic pricing” at MD courses? Was hitting balls at Timbers yesterday and it came up. I have never heard of it before around MD.
Can you elaborate on that? I haven’t heard of that either
I’m driving down to NC from MA for a wedding next week and stopping off in the Frederick area and playing Musket Ridge-anyone got any intel on that course?
It’s a fun course with decent elevation changes. Varied lengths on holes. Always in good condition. No stupid forced carries. Water only in play on first two holes. I really like it.
The example I was given was. If want to play on a Saturday and you make the tee time the day before, you might be charged more compared to making a tee time 5-7 days in advance. It was also brought on the Maryland Golfers Facebook Group. I also need more information on how it is decided.
You can hit iron off a lot of holes or driver if you want to be more aggressive.
Fun to play.
It really isn’t too much different than a course posting separate rates for weekday vs weekend or early vs late tee times. The courses retain the ability to change price, supposedly driven by demand, but it is a bit of a black box formula as far as I am aware.
I’m here now and they said walking is fine FYI. No difference in rate though.
Thoroughly enjoyed Eisenhower today. The greens and green surrounds are incredible and well designed. Will agree that some of the mounds are unnecessary but for the most part they are well placed. Having sad that you want to avoid them at all cost because it’s either a lost ball or unplayable lie 99.9% of the time. Can definitely tell they are watering the shit out of the fairways still because it was fairly wet in some spots but that is to be expected with a new course I suppose. Curious to see how it holds up as it gets warmer and with more play. But overall excited to get another tee time and play it often since it’s only 10 minutes from my house.
Has anyone played the Naval Academy course recently post renovation? Visiting the parents back in Annapolis (coming from Chicago) and hoping play some golf too. Maybe with some refugees??
Also the Eisenhower renovation looks great!
Have not played it yet but have heard great things. Same gui did the Eisenhower reno, Navy reno, Chartwell reno, and also the Congressional reno.
I played it back in November and then walked it two weeks ago to watch some of the patriot league tournament. Cannot say enough good things about it. For sure my favorite course in the area and the renovation did nothing to change that. Some really cool changes and shots and the back 9 is awesome. Would recommend. I live in Severna Park so am in the area and always happy to get out for a round somewhere so depending on timing would be happy to meet another refugee on a course in the area.
Thanks! I walked it years ago for a patriot league tournament also but never played it.
Parents are in SP as well. It will likely be a mid week visit and can keep you posted on dates once finalized. I’m fortunate my club opens some doors so thinking of tacking on Caves Valley, Congressional or Baltimore CC. But equally as happy to see this Eisenhower renovation.
Good luck getting a time at Eisenhower. Rest of the month is booked and starting in June will only be able to book a week in advance.
I also played Eisenhower today and I have to say, I was in love with the green complexes. I think they’re the best at a public track in the state, easily. I never played it before the renovation but what Green did is incredible. They’re so creative and what golf should be, with the ability to play different shots into greens depending on your ability. I played with two of my friends who are higher cap players and my fiancée who is new to golf and they all had a great time. And she shot her career low.
I didn’t mess with the humps much but I loved the no bunkering and ability to chip off tight lies all around. If I had millions of dollars to burn, I’d have this same guy come renovate like four courses in Baltimore.
11/10 would play again often.
Completely agree on the greens being some of the best in the area for public golf. Having played probably 50 times pre renovation it’s incredible how far its come. Place was a dump before.
Edit: Also. Green is doing some serious work in Maryland. Have heard rumors Navy wants to build another 18 and they had Green draw up a design while doing the current renovation. Would love to see him get his hands on the Baltimore courses and make this area a gem for public golf.
