Roll Call: Maryland

I got lucky and played it a year or so ago when it was in decent shape. To me, it’s a course you should play once and only once.

Same here at my club. On Friday our first available tee time is 3:30pm.

It’s great that the club is thriving, but I do miss the typical November day when there were about 5 groups on the course.

Right. Happy for the club that people are around, supporting the caddie program, and buying lunch or a few drinks, which helps both the financials and supports the employees.

We are lucky to be very financially solid, and with a few renovations to the clubhouse coming, hopefully all this activity prevents any major assessments.

We seem to be in the same situation, which obviously is a good problem to have. But I do look forward to the course again being virtually empty during the offseason.

Hopefully we can do a home and home in 2021…

Also, not sure if there will be any fans, but legit excited we are hosting the 2021 Girls’ Juniors in July. Will be hilarious to see like 17 year olds just tearing up the course that I struggle to break 80 on.

7 minutes in and Mona is in the game… I’m sure he’s a nice kid but not a great look

Heads up: Severna Park now has Top Golf (Trackman) installed in about 15 bays and added heaters in time for winter. Solid place to dial in ball speed and direction. They also integrate your stats in the phone app. Just don’t spread the word too wide, since it’s actually possible to reserve one for now.

Wow, that’s so bad ass.

Do you have to rent the bay and pay for balls? Or are balls included?

Good to know. That’s a whole five minutes from the house here so will have to check that out. Do you need to reserve it or any chance to get one just showing up?

You use the regular range balls and you do need to reserve, so I’d call the pro shop before you go. Not sure about the price but I’m guessing there’s a fee for every 30 minutes you’re using it. I didn’t use it myself, I just snapped a pic when I was walking by.

All the Baltimore county courses are the same but the secret at least at pine ridge is that they don’t post their walking tee times online. You have to call for those. I haven’t had a problem getting out of I call.

I’m partial lately to heading over the Willow Springs, an executive course off rt 70 and rt 32. I’d say the look you get over their range to the first hole, on your walk from the parking lot is pretty awesome for the area.

What kind of shape is the course in? I played there as a kid but haven’t been in probably 10 years.

Played there a ton as a kid, decent enough layout. Always a little rough around the edges, and it seems they’re putting less effort in than ever. Howd it look when you were there?

It’s not terrible. And the layout is just a lot of fun. Ultimately it’s a city owned muni that gets a SHIT TON of play so it’s not going to be perfect. They are also on the reservoir which prevents them from using some of the stronger herbicides otherwise it would go into the drinking water. Considering that it’s good. I enjoy playing it as much as I do my club.

Same reply as below.

It looks decent but I gotta be honest. I HATE that course. What they charge given the course and typical conditions is criminal. Best thing they could do in my mind is put a housing development on it to rid the world of a bad course. In fairness my dislike of that course may have to do with this narcissistic ass I used to work with who was proud of the +1 he carried playing Willow. Take him to a full size course and he was an 8. He also used to call his Suzuki Samauri a “Jeep”. Seriously.

I used to live in Columbia and would drive past willow to go out to rattlewood I disliked it so much.

To be fair, Rattlewood is a much better course that costs about the same to play. These days Willow feels mostly good for sneaking in a quick 9 after work that you could stretch into 13 if youre playing well.

Played with my pops in his usual money game at Winter’s Run this morning. Winter tees and punched greens, but the weather was perfect and I shot the best score of the year. No complaints about November golf.
