Thank you!!
It was a wild 3 days out there. After a kind of crappy 1st round, I figured out where I should NOT hit my ball for rounds 2 & 3 to kind of run away with it ![]()
V thankful that SNGA has divisions in their events for non-elite gofers ![]()

Thatās great to hear it was a fun time! Ann, Tim and the rest of the staff at the SNGA run some fantastic events!
What did you think of Spanish Trail?
Enjoyed it. I liked that the greens were protected by bunkering, but not ALSO false fronts LOL. Made it easy to do more of my āground gameā ie bump and run 7 irons to forward pins.
Nice! thats fun! are you playing in any other events coming up soon?
I played in the Paiute Club Championship last Sunday, but thatās my last real āeventā outside of Canyon Gate club events and NLU events (such as Summer Fest, NIT, RCC, and Club Championship) until the end of the year.
We have brought the HCP down to under 14, so we hope to participate in more golf association/tournament golf next year, if we can keep it up!
Down to a 14 is siiiick! love that! sneaky match play opponent!
Just found out Iām moving to Vegas in March (becoming an Air Force chaplain and first assignment is Nellis AFB)
As a native Philadelphian whoās spent a few years in VA, I have no idea what Iām getting into golf wise (or living wise but this is a golf blog!) Whatās the season like? Do you play in the summer? Are their good local discounts or is everything resort prices?
Watch the NLU Las Vegas video first off ![]()
Philly native who moved here last year. I play year-round - the heat does not bother me as long as I have a lot of water and sunscreen.
Get an NV Driverās Licence ASAP - thatās your key to not paying out the wazoo for golf. Otherwise, you are SOL and paying the ridiculous out-of-town rates.
Arcis Card will get you even more discounts at the Muni (Las Vegas Golf Club), Angel Park, and Painted Desert.
You can get a public āmembershipā to Red Rock Arroyo/Sienna but itās kind of pricy still.
Paiute has great local rates compared to their rack resort rates. It is up north too, like Nellis, so easy commute there. We have played with several people from the base there. If you can get one of thir PACC cards come Jan 1, you get even deeper discounts and some other perks for $399 annual fee.
Out of curiosity does the military have their own courses out in LV?
Go birds and thank you for the detailed reply
It looks like Nellis has a course called Sunrise Vista
Looks like they do - I donāt know anyone personally active on the base, so I havenāt played it.

Was curious. There are several here. Not terribly difficult to get on as long as youāre with someone who served/serving.
The base used to be 36 holes in early ā00ās (Eagle, Falcon, Raptor & Thunderbird), but I believe they sold off some of the land north of Carey, which was where the Thunderbird course was. They also got rid of the Raptor course which used to be right off the south end of the runway and along Nellis Blvd. I played it nearly exclusively when I was stationed there, as I was a junior enlisted married kid with no money. Favorite story is the first time I played there my wife got distracted by a F-16 taking off and high centered our golf cart on a curb. I was very nervous as I dead lifted the rear bumper free, might have something to do with the fact I had only been there about 2 weeks and in the Air Force for less than 7 months.
LOL that is fantastic!
I gotta find some Air Force peeps to play whatever is up there now!
Interesting, I remember 27 holes but I didnāt realize there was 36.
Looked at Google earth looks like Thunderbird went away in 2008 and Raptor in 2016. I left in 2006 but was back in ā08, and then ā10-13 yearly but never went back to the base and played.
You might be able to call the Pro Shop and get a guest pass to come play. It depends on a couple factors but the base courses are supposed to be self sufficient so they are normally pretty open to play. If I can convince the wife for a trip to Vegas Iāll let you know. I would love to go back play there.
Come April Iād gladly be your sponsor!
OHHHH you movinā out here?
Yup - in April Iāll begin a 3.5 year assignment at Nellis!
