Roll Call: L.A. County (Rustic Canyon and the Coachella Valley are not in L.A. County)

No golf trip through Malibu is complete without a round at this place:

Did you run into EAL while you were there?

Oh, god–does he have something to do with that place?

Ha - no. It was featured in one of his videos (he was denied access I think [or hope - you decide]).

Anyone heading to Rustic soon and can grab a logo ball and/or ball mark?

@Sweet_Cupn_Cake here’s the thread I mentioned.

My dad and I will be playing Rustic Canyon on Tues at 10:20a. We’ve got space for one more in the foursome if any of you want to join. Dad’s a 16, I’m an 8 - for what it’s worth.

Hello fellow Angelenos (or adjacent regionals),

I’m new to the Refuge and though I’m pretty shitty at golf, i cant get enough of it. I play a decent amount at Rustic, but have been venturing all over the Ventura Oxnard scene lately because tee times seem impossible to come by. Soule, Olivas, Buenaventura, Sterling and River Ridge have been my recent rounds.

looking forward to being a part of the community.

Hey all - looking for a bit of help. Moving out to LA for a month Sunday and wondering if anyone knows a good pro for some lessons. Have some free time. Staying in Pasadena but happy to drive over to West Side or just about anywhere.

Hey there LA County Refugees. Canadian Refugee here, loooking for a little help! I’m playing Soule Park Saturday April 24th Was looking for Friday afternoon and Sunday morning times to fill out the weekend. Got a Friday time at Rustic but got shut out online for sunday tiems this morning. Sandpiper, Olivas Links, Wilson/Harding all booked at 6:01am… lol. So hoping someone might have room for me to join them Sunday morning? Anywhere between Ojai and LAX… thanks for anyone that can help. 14 hcp that likes to meet fellow Refugees and have a fun round… Thanks Oh ya, looks like Angeles National has times, but is it worth $170??

Keep checking on those courses throughout the week, especially on Friday/Sat. Usually there will be some cancellations to free up some spots but you just have to keep checking. Also add Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks to the list, it’s a great option as well.

Not even close. There are fun holes, but $170 is out of the question.

I second the Los Robles Greens suggestion.

thanks @anon68983737 and @bmb430

will keep watching all of those tracks.

do either of you know if there would be any value in showing up at Wilson/Harding at 600am and hope for a cancellation??

Jesus. I have no experience with such a gambit. But that this question is even being asked really demonstrates what a ridiculous situation it is for accessible golf in this country’s second largest city.

Probably better to try Rancho Park for that (or even Encino/Balboa). Those would be much more on the way to LAX. If you’re on a time crunch, best to avoid Downtown/Griffith Park.

This might make it much worse: Bill Text - AB-672 Publicly owned golf courses: conversion: affordable housing.

yes @anon47037505 i thought i had it figured out this morning at 5:59am, three webpages open for online bookings to open at 6:00am, 6:01, no times available until 4:00pm… crazy…

People with a residence/players club card can book it earlier.

So I am not versed in legalese at all, but LA is going to rezone golf courses in underserved communities for apartments? Am I reading that right?

It’s a proposed state bill that would require the rezoning. I don’t think it forces the hand of city/county-owned courses to get sold, but may make it more likely or easier. SCGA will be sending info out to members soon about it.

apparently sucks to be a visitor :frowning:

Don’t feel too bad, the card doesn’t help
