Roll Call: Kentucky

Hello good people - I’ll be visiting and playing park mammoth on Tuesday, April 22nd. I have a tee time booked for 1:30 PM. I am flying into Nashville at 9:00 AM, so as long as everything goes smoothly that gives me plenty of time by my calculation to make it the course. Anyone looking to get out?

I’m looking for some guidance on where to play and where to eat in Lexington. My yearly buddies trip is coming in mid September. Looking at possibly playing Griffins Gate, Kearney Hills, one or both of the University courses, maybe Houston Oaks or Cherry Blossom. Anyone have any insight or suggestions on those?

On the food side, any good suggestions? Group tends to be fans of tapas or steakhouses. Any info would be super helpful!

Thanks!

I will be heading to Georgetown in both June and August for work, so I report back better then (especially Cherry Blossom). I will try and do some scouting to give you some feedback!

Cherry Blossom is a great track, ‘Big Blue’ at the University Course is worth it as well, the "wildcat’ course is worth skipping imo.

Houston Oaks, Kearney Hills are usually in great shape. Haven’t played Griffins Gate in a few years, but enjoy that one as well.

Those are all fine courses. Personally, I think Griffin Gate is overrated for the price, but it’s a fun layout. Skip the Wildcat course at the U Club. I like it, but it is just not kept in great shape and is really more of a local’s course. HOWEVA, if you are looking to get in 36 with little effort, that is your only 36 hole option.

Additional considerations, Golf Club of the Bluegrass, Gibson Bay and Peninsula.

In terms of food, downtown has everything you want. The Distillery District, National Ave area and Chevy Chase have options, but not as much.

Just hit me up if you have any other questions.

Thanks guys! Seems like I will have a lot of good options. Restaurant wise, places I found online were The Obstinate Son, Carson’s, Jeff Rubys, Tony’s, Kentucky Native, and County Club. Anyone been to any of those? Thanks!

Kentucky Native is more like a garden cafe. Great place for drinks and a few small plates, but wouldn’t expect to get full there. All the others you mentioned are well established. Obstinate Son’s a little on the newer side, but fits right in with our ‘’fine”-ish dining scene.

I’d throw in Corto Lima, School Sushi and Blue Heron in the downtown area. If you want a little local flavor, Ramseys or Wenchells are long-standing local favorites with homestyle cooking.

TBH, one good place to research is actually the Lexington city website.

Carson’s is excellent. Can’t go wrong there.

I always recommend local taco on Limestone.

Hey All - checking in from the St. Louis group. I have a small bourbon trail trip (my Maker’s Mark barrel is ready) coming up in September and wondering if anyone has recommendations on 2-4 courses in the area that I should hit while I’m around. I’ll primarily be in the Bardstown and Frankfort areas. Also if anyone has recs on the distilleries themselves feel free to shoot them my way. Other than MM, we are for sure hitting Buffalo Trace. Cheers

I’m not from KY but I just played Park Mammoth. It was awesome. I’m not sure if that’s too far from where you will be at but it was a ton of fun!

As for distilleries, I thought Whiskey Thief was awesome (the Franklin County location, haven’t been to the Louisville one).

Park Mammoth looks like a ton of fun. How was it in terms of conditions and tee time availability?

Conditions have been a bit iffy this spring from what I’ve heard due to rain, but they are coming around now. Tee times are usually fairly easy, but pricing can fluctuate by when you book since they use dynamic pricing.

I thought the conditions were good. Greens were in good shape. Running fast.

Come on! Represent your home state folks!

Played Olde Stone for the first time yesterday. Besides it being unbearably hot and humid, had a great time around there. Stayed in the cottages onsite which was great.

First hole kinda stinks, but loved the rest of the front 9. visual mind games on full display. Back nine was good, but tough to compare to the front in my opinion. Much more right out in front of you.
