There’s a number of projects Swope has for their reno, bunkers but mostly tree removal and a few new tee boxes, some of which are already underway (#16), but the big thing is they’re supposed to be expanding the greens. I thought @sundaybag might have some more insights.
Just a reminder that our Social Hang at The Sandtrap is coming up this Saturday! Hope to see a bunch of familiar and new faces there.
Just saw Sykes is removing their short game area for more parking. I know they were in dire need of more parking but that was my go to short game practice area. Any other recommendations in the area?
Ironhorse easily has the best public short game practice area in KC metro IMO
HOA prob has the largest
Depends where you’re at. But if you’re in the southern JoCo area, St.andrews is pretty decent. Heritage Park might be my favorite to practice at. If you’re closer to the border, then I agree Ironhorse is probably best.
Hey all - New here. I’m based on Overland Park. I play most of my golf at Ironhorse or Creekmoor.
Looking forward to getting out there.
Can I get added to GPGC message board?
I got you added. I still retain some power despite not being a captain anymore
Thanks, @VinnyG !
Welcome to the herd. #getinvolved
Wish I did! All I have heard is 8 million. My concern is that it will be like tee boxes, irrigation, cart paths and the clubhouse which wont do much. Hope I am wrong!
Well, you know it’s your boy that redid Oakwood…
Ill talk with him!
Speaking of Oakwood, I toured the par 3 course and went out to look at the tree work yesterday. So much work being done out there. It is really coming around. Give it another 2 years or so and it might be top rung in Kansas City. Owner needs to see the ball go through the hoop with taking down trees before going wild with it. I think this is all a step in the right direction.
The par 3 has potential to be world class. Scale is huge. Bunkers are unique and interesting. Shots are intriguing. The Biarritz is absolutely sick!
Provocative stuff and absolutely no walk in the park by the looks of it. Downright punishing. Love it.
I’d like to know what “pruning” constitutes as there are significantly more trees I’d prefer to see murdered than what was in the plans.
I’m a lifelong KC resident – play at Tiffany Greens, which is still probably the best young adult value in the city. hard to find any other place where you can play as much golf as you want for under $200 a month + the people are great.
they’re installing a new irrigation control system and working on some other things. hoping that’s the start of improvements to come. the course stays soggier than it should in places.
been fortunate to play in some KC Cup events and get out around the city and play different courses in my offseason. hoping to do some more JoCo golfing this year.
It’s not what you want it to mean from what I have seen. I’ve been told repeatedly that this is the “prove it” year - ie: the turf gets better/course is better etc. they will keep going. This should just be the start for the tree removal if things go well.
With an older owner, the concern is always making a mistake and then not living long enough to enjoy it when trees get put back. Obviously we all know it’ll be better but it’s a worthy concern from the guy cutting the checks. Once he sees how much better it is, hope is he will be more bold next winter.
Can’t really tell with the green being covered but let’s see if my golf architecture research over the winter paid off:
- First pic looks like a cross between a biarritz and redan
- Second pic looks like a redan
- Third pic… fugg if I know… but maybe a redan?
Hole 1 is also a redan. Hole 9 is a reverse redan.
Kidding kidding.
The first pic is def a classic Biarritz it’s just sideways. Luckily it’s big enough you can use it as intended. I do believe there is some slope on the right side to hold it but not sure.
Second pic green is flattish but has a mega false front.
Third pic is just a sick green that’s mildly blind haha
Need to find someone to finance my Par 3 course which is just alternating redans and reverse redans. I’m kind of an architecture guy now…
