Unsure if they fully owned it, but GL dumped all their public courses over the last few years.
Interesting, hadn’t heard that.
As someone from Minnesota who is deeply skeptical of them in general, I don’t like hearing that they were an abject failure down there.
They were awful for all the public courses, but have done a decent job at the private clubs they held onto. Granted, they may have funded the updates at the privates by neglecting then selling the publics.
I’ve heard literally nothing but bad things about them down by you guys.
The Sioux Falls courses seem to be doing fine. Based on things I’ve heard they’ve said about our course, I’m concerned at best of them. They are rumored to want to put condos on our course and shift one of the holes and I couldn’t be more skeptical of what’s going to happen.
Oh boy, here comes the annual GL rabbit hole

I always assumed KCCC was member owned. Or are you saying the membership wants to but Hillcrest? Seems… weird?
You wanna talk GL??? Fuck them

The rumor was the club or a few members were going to buy it so that they had somewhere to play while KCCC is closed for a renovation over the next 18ish months. I don’t really get it but guys that like golf and have a bunch of money have done stranger things.
Regardless of who buys it, I just hope that they put some money into the course/club house, restore some of the original Donald Ross design elements (grass bunkers in the low parts of the fairways on 3, 6, 16, 17/restore green sizes/original bunkers especially the in green bunker on 6), and generally maintain the course decently.

Most clubs would make a temporary reciprocity agreement with another club. Flat out buying a course is a fascinating alternative.
god damn… if they keep it public that would be awesome
I’m thinking of a loop around Eagles Landing on Sunday morning. Don’t have a time yet, need to call. Anyone want to join?
The ones they have in Wichita are dumps in my opinion. Trying to invest some money, but the golf courses are still the same.
I think that would occur during normal times, but based on what some members told me all the nearby clubs (Mission, IHCC, Milburn) are at capacity so they can’t give up any tee times to non-members.
That’s such a ‘so rich I cant even fathom it’ mentality.
“Our golf course will be closed one summer, so lets buy a different one so we fan still have our Saturday Nassau”
As I’m continuously reminded, “there’s levels to this shit”.
Semantics, but there is only one owner of Wolf Creek now. I believe Marty Bicknell (Mariner Wealth) bought out the 22-23(?) founding members a few years ago.
Not that this should be taken as gospel but I just had a conversation with a KCCC (non golfer) member about this. His response:
“Man I just don’t see those old rich dudes wanting to spend the money on something like that, they won’t even pass the fucking kitchen renovations”

Essentially he hadn’t heard anything about it but admitted he may not know either
Take that for what you will
I had also heard the rumor about KCCC buying Hillcrest, but that seems wildly impractical for the short period they’d need it, and I can’t really see those guys choosing to play Hillcrest in those conditions vs spending less money to just reciprocate with other clubs around town.
