When are you going to hop in here @VinnyG? Saw you out there a few times during the tournament.
Nah I wasn’t out there. Some zombie version of me who shot +28 was though. Not trying to make excuses, but competing in the American Royal World Series of BBQ the two days before that tourney was a questionable decision looking back.
If we’re talking holes (heh), I think 9 is pretty friggin sweet. Maybe a poor man’s 10 at Riv.
16 was was just strange. Not many holes out there like it so I don’t appreciate it yet (maybe even temporarily hate it).
12 is a awesome Par 5 which probably really shines with a North wind when people can go for it in 2. Really wanted a pin on that back plateau there. Somehow had a ball hang up on the front edge of that damn flat spot which spelt DEATH to that day 2 pin.
Sweet course, would love to be a member there if I lived near it. Social events seemed great as well.
That is unless you hit the concrete curb on the cart path which shoots you right in the the gunch. I certainly didn’t do that day 1.
9 and 12 are badass. The approach on 9 after bailing out to the right fairway was absolutely terrifying. And the aesthetic looking from 12 tee all the way up the hill and seeing the pin is chefs kiss. I’m rounding out my top 5 holes with #5, 13 and 10. No par 3s make the list, though I think 2 and 17 are solid.
Also, LCC seems well equipped to host a match play event
For sure. It was really enlightening to me how much greens impact scoring. Especially in wind. I thought LCC was somewhat straightforward tee to green. Wasn’t much of a grind. But when I got on or around the greens, the gears really started turning. It started on the approach but really became a factor if you needed to chip or hit a lag putt. I think many courses could learn a thing or two about challenging good players by looking at the greens at LCC.
Usually host the HOA fourball, but not this year cause of the midam.
They were rolling a solid 12-13 on Monday and they slowed them a bit on Tuesday.
Course is good, except for 16 (even locals hate it). Lots of elevation changes and when the wind picks up, it can swirl quite a bit.
It’s a challenging track, definitely a course that would be more fun the more you play it and understand each green.
Ben and I were very close to one another on 16 on the top of the hill on Tuesday…I let out a groan because that second shot was going to be difficult. The wind felt right to left…but definitely in (after I played the shot). I played first, hit it in the water…he played second and hit it to 10-12 feet.
Ben was on a little heater the last 7-8 holes on the back. Was fun to watch and was 1 revolution short of an ace on 17.
6-12 is a great stretch of holes. Some more challenging than others and a few you can take advantage of, but if you’re a little off, can definitely eat you up.
That par you made on 6 was truly an all-timer.
First fall GPGC event is coming up on October 21st! Great opportunity to #getinvolved if you haven’t done a local event yet. Playing 36 holes two man teams (randomly drawn) at Swope in the morning and Hillcrest after. All are welcome, but spots are limited!

I’ve got a late cancellation for a round at Eagles Landing tomorrow morning at 930am. Anybody want it? 2 players.
Long time lurker, first time poster. I am guessing that a lot of people here have heard all of the Hillcrest rumors (KCCC, Wolf Creek guys, Sporting KC guys), but wanted to see what everyone hopes happens out there. Played at Hillcrest a few times recently and the fairways and surrounds are ROUGH, but the bones of that course are so freaking good.
What are the Hillcrest rumors?
Yeah you’re definitely gonna have to spill the beans on those rumors. New ownership?
Just basically that the current owner is entertaining offers for the course. Supposedly KCCC, the owners of Wolf Creek, and the Sporting KC guys have expressed interest in buying the course, renovating/restoring the course, and potentially taking it back private.
I have heard the KCCC rumor but didn’t know others were interested as well. That makes it seem even more likely
IIRC, the Sporting KC ownership rumor was tied to Cerner since there’s some overlap there and the Bannister campus is so close to the course. Unsure if that’s still on after the Oracle move and downsizing/office closures.
I thought Great Life owned Hillcrest? Or were they just an affiliate?
