I usually use one of my personal days in the fall to go golfing before I have to coach basketball from October-March, so this might be a good time to pull the trigger if people are able to play. Also would take suggestions for other dates up until October 12
I can make that work if its after 3:30. Does that time frame work for you?
If you guys choose to play in Waterloo I might be able to join as well.
I think I could do that afternoon in the cedar falls/waterloo area if that’s what ends up happening.
Butter Cow Des Moiners.
Next Tuesday 9/17 I’ll be at Big Grove for a work dinner at 4:30. Guessing Itll be done 530ish. Would love for you all who can to come grab your Butter Cow Tshirt. Sorry for delay. Been a crazy last month.
Won’t be able to make it out tomorrow night so I’ll try to find time to get it from you later
To quote old Tom Joad : “I’ll be there.”
As this week marches on, I’m getting more and more likely to take next Friday the 27th off to play golf. So if there were a group of guys playing out east that day, I would almost certainly be in.
Hello, friends.
Heading to Des Moines next weekend to play some golf with buddies from high school. We’ve currently got Harvester and Honey Creek on the docket, but my buddies are resistant to Legacy and Otter Creek because they’re lame.
Any recommendations for public golf in DSM / the surrounding area? I really want to avoid TCI.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Based on how butthurt I am about all of you playing Harvester recently I am going to go ahead and refuse to help.
Edit: In light of our trauma bonding experience regarding a perceived lack of general knowledge of the operations strategy of Chili’s Restaurants, I will suggest making the additional 27min trek from Harvester to Elmwood CC. It was delightful.
Jealous.
I actually like TCI but the muni options around Des Moines are all fine but not great. Waveland is my favorite of the bunch. Bos landen in pella isn’t a terribly long drive from Des Moines but has a similar vibe to TCI. Lots of trees and lost ball potential.
Yeah, I’m with ya on that part. How is Harvester so easy to get on to all of a sudden?
Waveland is a good public option for sure. If you want an easier, cheaper, and quirkier course, Grandview isn’t a bad option. Jester Park is a good option as well.
Definitely in on Elmwood, one of my favorite courses to play when I can get on it. Not long, lost a bunch of trees a few years back so they added a bunch of short grass and new bunkering.
Bos Landen has undergone some renovations and they’re doing more this fall. They’ve gotten rid of a decent number of trees in the past few years and are getting rid of some of their crappy bunkers. It still eats up golf balls sometimes but its not as bad as it used to be for that.
Jims gota ya covered. Waveland, Elmwood, Jester, Blank, all fine. Lump me into the TCI haters. Their recent changes make 0 sense and were done poorly.
I’ve always said there’s no more helpful bunch of people than the fine folks of Iowa. Appreciate it fellas!
If you enjoy Waveland, you ought to come back in August for the State Fair and the Butter Cow
I was committed to the one last month and had to bow out due to my poor planning. I will 100% be attending the butter cow in 2025.
Edit: So long as I’m not required to play coldwater.
I loved TCI when it first opened but it has gone downhill ever since. The reversing of the 9’s was a terrible fucking decision as was changing the old first hole into a benign par four now.
Not required to play Coldwater, but it was in pretty good shape this year.
The GM at TCI is also the GM at Amana Colonies. I met with him while working on the new clubhouse there. To put it nicely, he is very sure of himself. Lots of grand ideas wanting the biggest and best on a shoestring budget and also not listening to input that would save him money in the long run. I’m sure the same thing went on with the changes at TCI.
