Roll Call: Iowa

It’s been 5 years since I have last played. I enjoyed it and was in good shape at the time. About an hour and a half drive west of CR.

Bluetop Ridge at Riverside Casino is 45 minutes south and a great track. Finkbine in Iowa City is the Hawkeyes home course and another great course.

Thanks. I’m dropping my boss off at DSM tomorrow around 2 and then heading to Ottumwa for the night, and I have PCC so Bos Landen seems like a good plan for tomorrow

Although it’s looking like it may not be PCC anymore

Bos Landen is one of my favorite courses outside of the DSM area. It has gone through a few different owners over the years so the condition can vary, but its a fun course.

Also, if its not too late I recommend Hunters Ridge (technically in Marion on the NE side of Cedar Rapids) for anything in Cedar Rapids. I grew up on the course and worked there all through high school. All the other Courses Hawkeye89 mentioned are great options as well.

Bos landen is cool. Lots of elevation changes. Haven’t played in a few years but the conditioning can be hit or miss lately from what I’ve heard. Ottumwa has a couple courses that are public it you have time there. They’re both pretty average but cedar Creek north of town is the more fun of the two. If you’re going to be around Ottumwa for a little bit and have time to drive the preserve on rathbun lake is fun but it’s about 45 minutes from Ottumwa.

Thanks all. Is BL pretty walkable or is it spread out?

It is fairly spread out as it weaves through a housing development, combined with the elevation change it would be a hike. Doable, but I have always opted to ride when playing there

Thanks, I asked the kid when I got there and I’m glad he recommended I ride - that would’ve been a tough walk anytime let alone in today’s heat. Cool course, greens were tough. It frustrated me a bit at times but I had fun

Glad to hear it. What kind of shape was it in? I havent been able to get there yet this year.

Just signed up today, kinda new to the NLU universe. Live in Moline, IL but i always call Iowa home. I always have trouble finding people to hit the links with. If anybody finds themselves in the QC area let me know and we can talk about how much better at Golf you are compared to me,

Has anybody seen any damage to courses from the Derecho last week? My folks live on Hunters Ridge in Marion and I know they are still closed due to clean up. I will be visiting them this weekend and hoping to get out there and help clean up on Sunday.

I haven’t been out to the courses in Cedar Rapids, but if it is anything like the rest of the city i assume most trees are either gone or missing substantial limbs.

the courses here in the QC had some large branches and small trees come down. I know Glynns Creek in Long Grove had quite a bit, not sure if they are open. The munis in Davenport were only closed for a day or two. I know Cedar Rapids/area was just pummeled by the storm but i dont live there so im not sure

I am near Dubuque and make trips to the QC area often. Shoot me a message if your looking to play

Welcome to the NLU universe. I’m down in Galesburg but wouldn’t mind coming up to play in the QC area later this year. You might also follow the Bloomington-Normal thread as it covers some more of the central Illinois crowd.

Cedar Rapids is still a mess. My brother is still without power on day 9. I have been told Hunters was still down and Finkbine in Iowa City just reopened.

Oh hey there. I picked up food in Moline last night. I’m across the river in Davenport.

Nice to see a local NLU gui.

Lived in Davenport my whole life, moved to Moline about 3 years ago. I make up for it by wearing as much Iowa stuff as i can.

Yep Hunters is expected to be closed through the weekend. I was supposed to be playing there with a group of high school/college buddies this weekend. Will be out on the course helping with cleanup now instead.

I am also in Davenport. Work in Moline (until all of this, now WFH) so try to play around at as many of the local courses as possible.

3 young kids so don’t get out as much as I would like, but sneak out when I can.
