Since Brooks was “involved” I think we can officially dub Memorial Park the first Broakito.
I’m up in Jordan Ranch. Not far. Haven’t made to Weston Lakes, but thinking of joining if they get the Heritage Parkway done fast enough.
Woods rd is an easy cut through from 10. Let me know if you ever want to play and ill grab a tee time. Happy to host!
Does memorial park still rent out push carts?
Yes they do!
Just saw this for some reason. I’ll definitely holler soon!
Houston folks, posting this to your thread.
Sign up for Buccee’s Cup. We’re trying to target May 22-23.
Fill out the green columns. If your name is not on there, go ahead and add it.
Please fill out ASAP so I can call and block the times.
Format: Sat-morning Fourball; Sat-afternoon Foursomes, Sunday-Singles
Dates: Based on poll, that first weekend seems to be the best. Let’s shoot for that unless we a) can’t get enough people b) can’t get enough times.
Arr/Dep: Ideal arrival Friday night and departure Sunday late afternoon. (Open to sickos who want to drive to PD early Saturday, I guess)
Captains: Feel free to volunteer or nominate others.
Purpose: To play golf. To celebrate Texas. To crown the true city champion of Texas traffic.
Post-script: Leaving a SXSW after-party way too cool for me, I met a Texas hero . Co-master of ceremonies with Anthony Kim?
I put my name on the list. Would be interested in Pine Dunes in May.
Houston guis, just got back from a weekend in Houston and I absolutely loved the golf!
Played Memorial Park Saturday and the course was amazing, greens were pure. Perfect balance of muni golf with plenty of tour level strategy. My favorite hole was #2 par 3. I loved that the hole rewarded a well placed tee shot while punishing a wayward one.
Sunday I made my way to Gus Wortham. Absolutely loved this one as well. For being the oldest course in town it was it great shape. Hole #7 and #18 were awesome par 4s. Plenty of landing area for your drive but required an excellent approach shot to an up hill green.
Gus was pretty cool because I got those nostalgic vibes.
Both days I was paired up with fun and welcoming folks. Can’t wait to come back soon! Thanks again!
It’s actually the oldest course in Texas and you’re absolutely right, it’s amazing. It may be my favorite course in town and I play all over.
Played Gus yesterday. It has become my go to when I can’t get a tee time at Memorial.
Same here with the Gus and Memorial rota. Fingers crossed the new rates at Memorial lighten things up so you can book a tee time more than 2 minutes after their released, but I doubt it.
Don’t know if you’ve already made a decision on TCC, but if you’re still looking for a club in the area, you might want to check out Augusta Pines. It’s semi-private, a very solid course and the price can’t be beat. The other perk: you’re also able to play their sister course, Gleannloch Pines (27 holes), as well. I live in the Woodlands and have been an AP member for 4+ years. Would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
So I looked at Gleannloch as that was our home course in high school and I’m very familiar with the course. At the moment it seems a little expensive for a course that’s public. Now, it does have 3 9’s so traffic isn’t quite as bad but it’s one of the courses I’ll be checking out when it’s time this April/May.
I play at Gleannloch when I am in town with my dad and his buddies every Saturday unless the weather is bad. It’s a pretty nice course, I enjoy playing it. Greens are sometimes slow and very soft but I always have fun playing it.
I liked playing it in high school because it’s pretty wide and I couldn’t control my driver. But it’s also pretty long so it was the only course we played that we got carts instead of having to carry our own bags.
Edit: The other benefits of TCC is that it’s very cheap for a family membership. My fiance is learning how to play so it’d be nice for both of us to be able to go out after work, not have to worry about making a tee time, and her not having to worry about slowing people up.
I’ll be looking more seriously in a couple of months.
It is very wide open, my dad likes that too lol it’s not an easy walking course for sure. Lots of long walks. I don’t like the 9 called Loch (I think that’s the one) the one that ends with the super long par 4 that really should be a par 5. I prefer playing the other two 9s. The guys in the pro shop are really nice. I used to play at Augusta Pines because it’s like 5 minutes from my parents house, but the people out there aren’t very nice. I like Woodforest but since I’ve been able to practice out of Woodlands CC I haven’t gone out there much.
Oh, if you’re playing at Woodlands CC then you’ve probably met my grandfather, who’s one of the marshals. I’ve heard he can be a real stickler when he’s working.
I don’t play there much, but I pretty much am up there every day practicing. Their greens are awesome, and that’s how I’ve met P Reed.
