Roll Call - GB & IRE

Especially if you avoid the A3 and take the back way through Chiddingfold, Petworth and / or Midhurst.

True story, I once drove the green at Chiddingfold and hit a guy on the arm who went bananas and tried to have me banned from the course.

There’s something in this Goodwood plan:

Goodwood has a partnership with BMW. Goodwood sponsors Georgia Hall. Georgia Hall plays Callaway. NLU partners with both. Seems obvious to me that Goodwood should be the location for the first NLU Refugee GBandI Classic and that the NLU chaps should make an appearance.

I would pay money to see @Randy’s face at the view when you walk up the hill to the 7th. I’d pay even more to see them race BMW’s round the track afterwards.

In all seriousness, the greens aren’t quite at their best at the moment, but come spring we should be in good shape. Something around April/May if that works for people.

im a member at goodwood through chi uni also so would be well up for this if theres a space!

The more the merrier!

Extremely keen for any golf In the UK, over here nothing is that long of a drive. Goodwood sounds class, as does Alwoodley. As a heads up If you got onto Alwoodley in mid to late May, you’d probably get it as close to the best tournament condition it may get due to the brabazon trophy being held there on the 30th.

This is kinda why I’m doing it in the 14th / 15th. Until the start of April they’re on fairway matts and from the start of May is closed to societies to prepare the course.

I thought about June but I just want to get a meet under our belts. Plus I like the idea of being together on Masters Sunday.

Hi guys,

Absolutely love NLU and recently discovered The Refuge. I’m from London - re-found up the game (after playing as a kid) 18 months ago and making up for lost time by playing as much as possible.

I’m a member at Malden in SW London.

I’m sorry to say Max that you’re totally fucked now! Prepare to spend every dam waking moment refreshing The Refuge page to see what’s new. It’s golf crack… :flushed:

Welcome max, I used to live SW London and almost joined Malden. Ended up at West Byfleet instead where a few other mates joined.

Good to see another Londoner

Thanks for the welcome @The_Cad_Says and @anon3456542. West Byfleet looks delightful. Been so lucky with the weather (before today), think I’ve played in the ‘winter’ than I did in the summer.

I’d be keen to play with fellow ‘GB & Ire’ Refugees at some point, so please do bear me in mind for future events!

Sounds like a RACDG recruit to me…

Here’s a question…what do people think of winter golf on some of our best courses?

I’m tempted to try to get a round at Royal County Down in February or March. It’ll be half the usual green fee and from what I can gather it’s proper greens and play from the first cut.

Worth it or should I just fork out the full rate and get the full experience?

I’ve played RCD in March. It was a lovely day too, which I guess is luck of the draw, but I had a great time. Full tees. Full greens. I barely noticed any difference. The caddie told me the grass on the greens was a few mill longer than the summer but other than that was a good day.

Having said that, it was more a “I’ve a day to kill… fuck it, lets play RCD”. Not sure I would plan a whole trip around it to TOC or something.

That would be my approach. May end up with a day to kill at some point and fancy getting out although maybe RCD isn’t the best place for a first round of the year…!

Probably not!

One good thing is that I didn’t book. I just rocked up as a single and got straight on.

Getting myself booked in for mid-March.

Could I survive without a caddy?

Aye, you’ll be grand. But get a course book. There are a lot of blind tee shots so you’d have no fucking clue where you’re going!

And that’s different from my normal game how?!

I know that dance!

I play off 15 at the minute but I swear to God 9 of those every round are 3 off the tee. If I could get the fucker down the fairway every time I’d be a single figure handicap.

In the US last summer at a country club where every fairway was 200 yards wide, the rough was fluffy and no par 4 was more than 400 yards long, I shot a 78. I almost moved in!
