Hi All, a few friends and I are attending the Open this summer at St. Andrews (Coming from Canada). We are curious if staying in Edinburgh doable for the tournament? Obviously costs for places in St. Andrews proper are ridiculous. We are planning on using the train/bus to commute as we will likely indulge in a few pints etc. I have read that there are extra trains to and from but wondered if anyone has experience with this? Thanks for the help.
It’s a pretty easy trip from Edinburgh to Leuchars station by train. I’ve done it a time or to albeit not during an open. There have always been taxis waiting outside the station and it’s a short ride in to St Andrews from there.

I’ll be staying in Edinburgh and taking the bus or train in. I expect many others will be doing the same.
Scottish/UK brethren…
I have an open spot during my April trip and need to fill it with one of the below three. Could use your help power ranking which one I should effort above all others
Archerfield
Gullane #1
Renaissance Club
Your help (not withstanding those ridiculous rankings I saw from the RACDG group last month) is appreciated
Well, the list clearly states Gullane #2 over #1
We have it on very good authority that Renaissance is spectacular, but may be a bit more expensive than the other.
Probably would rate them
Renaissance
Gullane #1 (if you must)
Archerfield
#2 is already scheduled for the day after I would play one of these tracks. Here’s what I already have on the docket for the area during my two stints there:
longniddry
kilspindie
gullane #2
north berwick
dunbar
muirfield
Just need to fill that final spot I have sitting open
Sounds a terrible trip!
Only space for one more?
Craigielaw is a great knock and right next to Kilspindie
Should be awful. Only space for one more in the immediate area.
Remainder of the trip includes:
Carnoustie
Panmure
Elie
Crail (both courses)
Kinghorn
Old Course (hopefully via ballot)
Another tbd course at St. Andrews
Thats a tough choice but I think I would choose Gullane 1. Love everything about the Gullane courses.
Renaissance Club a totally different deal. Better facilities and food. Tremendous stay and play experience. Bit more corporate.
I like the Jubilee the best after the Old.
Hey guys also new to The Nest and looking to see what it’s all about. Stay up in Aberdeen but keen to get as much golf in as possible this year
Welcome welcome. Sorry for the delay….let me ping you a DM when I get to work and I can give you some more information!
Would be great to get some details of the GB & Ireland Roost Events, many planned for this year? Happy to help on the Irish side of things as well if you need a hand!
So my wife, youngest child and I are currently in Cambridge, after four days in Brighton, followed by five days in London starting tomorrow. We are here for university visits, as she really wants to go to school in England. She has fallen in love with the University of Brighton, so Im pretty sure I will be bringing her back here in September. This is all a long rambling way to ask if I can get an international membership to the original RACDG for my visits here?
Absolutely. We’ve a fair few Flockers down that way too, so hooking you up with a game won’t be a problem.
…also, if she decided to go for Cambridge, there are a lot of Flockers there and in East Anglia too.
Actually, there are 150 London based Flockers. So that’s good too.
Basically, go wherever. We got you covered.
DM me.
Will do. In London now looking at West London and Greenwich, but I’m pretty sure she is all in on University of Brighton.
It’s a nice enough town but only the English could build a beach resort on a beach covered in stones.
Hey guys, just recently joined the refuge so looking to get a few games in the summer. I’m up in Aberdeen & just joined Cruden Bay so looking to catch up with any members up there who fancy a game sometime. Cheers, Matty
