How is Five Ponds? I’ve seen it a few times when looking to get out, have heard great things, but never made it up there.
Five Ponds is solid. Nothing crazy good or bad, except maybe the 8th hole. (One of those forced layups leaving you 200 in to a par 4 types).
I haven’t played Lederach in years, that was always a fun time.
It’s a fun course. Nothing too crazy but has a good mix of tough and easy holes so anyone can get out and have a good time. Gets a ton of play but they keep it in pretty good shape. Pace is usually okay, at least for public weekend golf in PA.
I actually don’t hate the 8th hole if you play from the back tees. I think it’s 300 to the creek and then you have 160 in or so. If you hit a bad drive you’re completely boned which gives it some teeth.
Lederach is one of my favorites course-wise, but idk how much I’ll try to get out there this year. Tee times are stacked right on top of each other, and they have some… very elderly gentlemen working the shop and as rangers who just can’t keep up with it so the pace was horrific last summer. Like, 25 minutes delayed on the first tee and then 5.5 hour round type-of-horrific multiple times.
Ouch, yeah that sounds brutal. Happy to join you for an early round though, maybe we can beat the crowds. I’ll never forget the first time there the starter said “this is a links course” and I laughed my ass off as it was very soggy bentgrass. That said, fun place.
Yeah let’s make it happen!
Hello “Philly” friends. We coordinated an event that started in the NYC Metro group but we are looking to extend out to the southern tribe.
7/31 12:30pm shotgun at Trenton Country Club
Currently (as of this post) there are 29 spots (out of 60) remaining.
There will be some kind of competition format but has yet to be determined.
Details are below and it should be an awesome day. DM if you want any other details
Oh this sounds awesome (and only 20 minutes from me!). What is the latest we can register (or is it simply once everything fills up?)
More than likely there will be some cut off to give the club an idea, but unsure about when. For now, we will go with “when it fills up”
Anyone want to play hidden creek at 9a on Wednesday
hey y’all - looking for a solid course to play in mid-August, heading back east for fantasy football drafting and a foursome want to get out in the Poconos area for a round. Did a little bit of searching and found Jack Frost National, Split Rock, and Hideaway Hills as potential options? We’re coming from Philly area so anything on the way (excluding Lehigh Valley where we grew up) is on the table… any suggestions/advice on places to avoid is great, thank you!
Higher handicap guis may find Jack Frost a little bit of a tough scene. Really cool course but played a bachelor party round where I had to assist half the crew look for balls in the woods just to have one to play they lost so many. Can’t comment on Split Rock or Hideaway but I always enjoyed Pocono Manor, a lot more forgiving than Jack Frost. Couldn’t say what type of shape it’s in these days though it’s one I could see having gone a bit downhill.
Thank you! I saw some reviews that made Jack Frost seem more open so good to know thats not the case. We’re a handful of ~20 caps so trying to thread that needle between something that isn’t tree lined but a little more open and enjoyable. Hard to do sight unseen
Where is your final landing spot in the Poconos?
Split rock is tighter than Jack Frost.
Blue Ridge Trail is also up that way with 27 holes. Havent played in a few years, but was in good condition and had some more open holes than JF did.
Sky Top is in good condition this year if you are over near East Stroudsburg area. Also Great Bear is over that way which I have enjoyed.
Woodloch is up above Lake Wallenpaupak and is my favorite if you are that far north.
But just be prepared because they are all mountain courses, so none are going to be wide open.
Ending up in Albrightsville, which is maybe SW if Poconos a bit? I’m spoiled now by Oregon courses which for the most part are pretty open, and I didn’t golf much when I was younger so I’m not super excited to head back to tight tree-lined courses haha. Blue Ridge seems like the closest for us of those you mentioned so I’ll give it a look. thanks!
Sugarloaf is also about 45 mins out 80 but wouldnt be good if coming from Philly. Much more open, cheap, pretty good conditions.
Hey gang. Anyone a member or ever play Trenton CC? I’ve been inquiring about a membership to a few places, and this one is on my radar. I honestly don’t know much about it.
I’ve played three or four times. It’s an awesome, awesome course. The NYC metro group is actually having an event there next Thursday if you are interested in checking it out. The Empire Cup at Trenton CC — RACDG NY Metro Chapter
Thanks man. I saw that the event and thought about signing up for it. I may get fired if I take another day off to play golf right now though! I appreciate the feedback. I might go take a tour over there.
Great spot! From what I’ve heard at least as of a year or 2 ago looking for members as well.
If that’s in your range Yardley CC would be as well. I’ve heard they’ve moved down the waiting list pretty good and for my category when I was looking was pretty reasonable. Fun walkable Alex Findlay design, looks short on the card but don’t let it fool you, only 2 Par 5’s and small greens. Sneaky undulation too. My Dad and brother were members up until recently. I know people there still if you want a connection.
