Nice review. I used to work in Princeton area and agree with your ranking of the Mercer munis. I would highly recommend Heron Glen (Huntderon County), Neshanic(Somerset County) and Makefield Highlands (Yardley, PA) with the first two being a ~30 minute drive and the latter being 20 minutes at most. I live in Northern NJ now and my parents and friends are in Bucks County so end up meeting at Heron Glen or Neshanic a bit and still consider Highlands my home course
Just moved to Ewing from Flemington and @Craigstands nailed those breakdowns. For my two centsā¦Cherry Valley and TPC Jasna low key stink. Would rather play Neshanic or Heron Glenn any day of the week.
Iām gonna be a student there so I wouldnt be able to get a Mercer Oaks county card, but I have the ability to get weekday afternoon membership at Springdale.
I wonāt have car so donāt know how reachable Heron Glen or Neshanic valley would be ā Mercer oaks, cranbury, and Bunker hill all more feasible by bike or uber. I would be mostly at Springdale but branching out for a little diversity and time flexibility I think Bunker hill and cranbury are the best option based on price and distance.
thanks for the comprehensive review, it was exactly what I was looking for.
Congratulations. Student membership at Springdale is the way to go. I think that gets you on after 2PM on Weekdays and 3PM on Weekends there and is only like $500 for the academic year.
As for the weekends I think Mercer Oaks is something like $30 on weekends with county card (you might see if University students can get one of these) and $55 without one which might be slightly higher than say Cranbury or Bunker Hill.
Thanks. Not sure if I can get residence through the school, or if I can hold two muni residence memberships together.
Springdale looks awesome and for a student its perfectly located but they seem to take the no guests or playing partners seriously for students so looked outside for courses I could play with family or w my friends from home that are cheap and relatively quiet.
anyone playing this sunday? weather is looking good
Saturday and Sunday both looking good. Definitely gonna get be out there shaking the rest off. Cant wait for this cold to go away. Hope March does dip back downā¦
Driving home from RI Sunday am but planning to meet up for an afternoon 9 at the home club.
Living in Burlington county, most of the courses are closed off with yellow tape but you are able to walk but no clubs allowed. Went to my local muni, and just walked around the course and the superintendent out there fixing some iffy spots like the cart bridge and moving some fallen trees. He said they will struggle to make up for what will be lost with them being forced to close, they did everything to make it accessible and changed the flags like many clubs have done across the us but were forced to shut down. Doesnāt know if they will make it the year if this goes on all of April. Could be the fate of many of our favorite muni courses in the area.
Hey everyone! Iāve poked around The Refuge from time to time, but havenāt made an account until now. Currently in Montgomery County, PA and itching to get back out on the course.
welcome!!
Where at in Montco? I grew up in western Montco (Royersford) and still play out there every now and then (non coronavirus times) with my dad who is still out that way. Iām in South Jersey now.
Nice! Iām Plymouth Meeting/Norristown area.
playing today here in DE. are pa clubs open?
Nope, all are closed. Where did you play?
I would love to go play, but everywhere around me (Villanova) is closed. Iāve heard rumblings of public courses applying for waivers to reopen, but I havenāt heard of anyone actually being successful with that.
Dupont. Fortunately our private clubs (and privately owned public) are open. But the privateās arenāt allowing guests. Some have even closed, I assume due to age of their members (i.e Bidermann).
Welcome Gene!
In Burlington county they are all closed even the private at the time. I have taken walks along the course but they have the course pretty roped off to sneak on and hit a couple.
Delaware public courses closed to out of state residents, as well
Officially been 4 weeks of quarantine life. Looking forward to getting back out on the course at some point here. Would love to join a few Refugees for a social distancing round once the courses start to open back up.
