Roll Call: East Tennessee

He might not know AimPoint, but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t.

Interesting… thanks for the info!

Played Sweetens for the first time last week and it was well worth the drive from Knoxville and money. Made a couple of new friends and played some excellent golf for the first time since I hurt my back again.

Already planning 2 more trips down there next year if we can get passes.

New on the NLU boards, but hopefully not new to some of y’all. I (Dooner) live in Johnson City but play anywhere that’s new within a couple hours of JC (incl. VA, KY, NC and upstate SC). Lots of ground to cover in Knoxville that’s new, but love introducing folks to our local courses in the Tri-Cities if you’re over this way. Holler if you’re ever coming up! Glad to be here!

The High Cotton Club (both regretfully and positively) finished 2nd in the Roost Club Championship in back to back years, held 3/8 spots in the championship match of the NIT today accompanied by two back to back 3rd places in the Championship Round.

We’re building a machine over here, and East Tennessee needs to be included. Reach out for a message to our discord!

@SmokyMtn has been holding down our #SmokeyMtn chapter and can probably attest to what I’m saying, but I mean it when I say East TN is important to me. Get involved and let’s get 1% better together!

Hey all, I moved to Chattanooga a few months ago for a new job after graduating from NC State. After getting settle in I’m picking up the sticks again and figured I’d reach out to see if there was anyone else in the area who wouldn’t mind letting me tag along for some rounds. Any course suggestions for around Chatt would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I’m in Knoxville, but I’m very jealous of the Chattanooga courses…some seriously good tracks down there. I’ll let others chime in with some recs as I’ve only played Sweetens.

Bear Trace at Harrison Bay is a really good course. The Brainerd muni is an old Donald Ross design thats fun to play as well.

If you’re ok driving 45 minutes to an hour to play… McLemore is incredibly fun, with probably one of the best finishing holes in the South. It is very pricey, but fun. Nobb North is another thats a bit outside Chattanooga, but a fun track. The Course at Sewanee is another must do, it’s a Gil Hanse with two sets of tees to make 9 holes play like 18. The par 3s are insanely fun. Lunch at Mtn Goat Market after the round is highly recommended.

A bit further out, but the Tim’s Ford Bear Trace used to be awesome too. It’s 1/2 of the way up to Nashville, so not a course you could pull off from downtown every weekend, but a fun day trip.

Tim’s Ford is a good layout and the conditions are okay but not great. I played there a couple of times this summer and they seem to have totally given up on maintaining fairway bunkers. Not sure what’s up with that.

I enjoy playing BT Harrison Bay, Brainerd, Nob North, Sewanee and occasionally Fall Creek Falls, Trenton or Dogwood Hills for something different. Brown Acres would be slightly more enjoyable without 8 lanes of interstate running through it. It’ll do in a pinch.

A friend belongs to Creeks Bend and they have a very liberal guest policy so I probably play there as often as anywhere. It is on par with all the public courses around here with excellent greens while being a little rough around the edges.

@billythekid I hope you find a good crew to play with regularly. I’m probably the same age as your dad.

This is interesting to me as I’ve always thought Knoxville had much better options for daily fee courses, especially if you include the surrounding area.

Maybe a fair point.

I play Three Ridges and Williams Creek. Willow is a great track, but it’s an hour from my house and that’s just too far some days with the wife and kids at home.

Thanks for the recs everybody! Looking forward to getting out the these courses and hope I can play with some of you at some point.

Hey everyone! I just recently joined the refuge this week. Im looking to get out on the course more this year and take practice more seriously. In need of some guys to play a few rounds with. Im located in the Johnson City/Bristol area. Usually play Warriors Path in Kingsport but love to make the occasional drive down to Graysburg (Great 27 hole track)

I play all over the Tri Cities, mostly Clear Creek in Bristol, just because it’s closest. I play in a league called the TGT, you can look it up in Facebook. Don’t know if there are many other ‘fugees in the area. Down to meet new folks to play for sure

I’ve never played at Clear Creek but would always be down to meet up for a round whenever we get some nice weather up here.

I’d be down, I’m in JC and I’ve never played there!

You should look into the 3BR (Border Battle at Black Ridge) coming up with the First Flight roost. It’s at the Pete Dye course near Virginia Tech and will be in August, iirc.

Im going to have to look into this since I’m only 2 hrs 11 minutes from this course!

hey y’all, checking in from Ohio. some buddies and I are planning a mini golf trip next month and east Tennessee seems to be very convenient for us. nothing set in stone yet, but looking to stay in the Johnson City area, as it seems to be the most civilized area ?? it’d be a little drive, but courses on the list right now are The Crossings, Graysburg Hills and Warriors Path. any good or bad reviews on those places? also open to any other recs. we’re all single digit handicaps so a little more challenging course is not an issue, but we’d like to keep greens fees under $80 during a weekday. would appreciate any follow ups on both courses and restaurants, thanks!
