Was embarrassed to post this but am having the same issues with my friends. Have one of them that will walk with me but the others are staunchly against it. We are gonna try to go this month and it was like pulling teeth when they heard it was walking only.
I have some friends like that too…I don’t play much with them anymore though.
Thinking I might meet some friends at Sweetens next Wed. or Thur if we can somehow get a better looking forecast. If anyone else will be there would be glad to meet from a distance lol
Cool story about my friend Alex at Williams Creek in Knoxville. He has one arm and his swing is great. His life story is better. If you play at Williams Creek, look for Alex.
Wow, what a story and life experience.
That swing (and one handed club twirl no less!) is excellent. Reading his story really impressed me and looking at what he has overcome is unbelievable.
Anyone have any course recommendations between Chattanooga and Asheville NC. Will be driving to play sweetens on a Friday and trying to get in a random 9. On side note have two sweetens passes for 6/6 that will most likely be cancelling at end of this week after some buddies said they weren’t comfortable flying yet
Front 9 at either Egwani Farms or Willow Creek in Knoxville are fun.
If Knoxville, what time would you be around?
@holeout, what say you?
Noon-ish probably
Typically, I’d be up for teeing it up with you. I have a funeral at 11 though. Hit me up next time you’re coming through.
I think Willow Creek is the best option for you though. It’s not far from the interstate and it’s a pretty easy walk.
Sorry for your loss and will do.
Thanks for the recommendation
Agree on Willow. Will be the best conditioned and most enjoyable course whether you play front or back.
If it’s 6/5, I’ll be out of town unfortunately. Would’ve loved to play otherwise!
This morning two of us drove down towards Sweetens and as we entered Chattanooga we got the call it was flooded and we wouldn’t be able to play. Our other buddy was coming up from Atlanta and met us in Chattanooga at our 4ths house. It was quite a bummer at first. Not gonna lie.
However, we ended up getting on at Moccasin Bend in the morning and Brainerd in the afternoon. We played a ton of different games and ended up having a great day.
Moving the discussion from the Sweetens thread here about re-doing some of the Knoxville courses.
This may be very woke, but whatever I think it fits right in with everything going on in town…
Would be so great to have a new 9 hole place:
- that food trucks could park at
- have walking/bike trails around where the other 9 could have been?
- a little shop space that different restaurants/breweries could rent out (Think it would be awesome if one weekend Balter rented out the little shop, brought some kegs or cans, sold some food and drinks. Then the next weekend the food trucks use it, the next time one of the coffee shops does a pop up from open-11am.)
What is the vibe difference between the two Ross courses in town? I’ve never played either Cherokee or Holston Hills but I get the sense that Cherokee is more for social purposes and Holston exists for golf. Is that correct?
You’re not far off. I’ve played both, and the vibes couldn’t be more different.
Cherokee is super posh, very well appointed clubhouse, etc. Course is a Ross that’s been jammed into a small piece of land.
Holston has a fine clubhouse, but it’s more about the golf/activities there. The course is exactly what @BamaBearcat described - a true original Ross that hasn’t been effed with over the years, with a ridiculously good routing on a big, sweeping piece of land.
I’ve played a lot of Ross’s, and this one is the best so far. I have yet to play (although I saw it up close for 7 days when I worked the '05 US Open) Pinehurst #2, but I honestly think it might be better than that.
Don’t get me so excited. This would be epic.
let’s just start from scratch. Who has the upfront land money?
