Would say Keney Park, Wintonbury Hills, and Shennecossett are all worth your time. Have heard some less than stellar reviews of Oxford Greens. Plus Keney, Wintonbury, and Shenny are all miles better
Oxford greens is tough. I hate the layout. Itās also not in great conditions usually greens are beat up.
Second this about Oxford. Pretty stupid layout and would definitely skip. I live in Fairfield as well and if youāre looking for something close, would highly suggest Longshore. Cool little golf course that has been in great shape this year.
Thanks! Living south we get later sunset, do you think it is feasible to get 18 in starting at 2:40 in October? I was looking at the sunset times and it said around 6:40 for daylight purposes.
Canāt really be too helpful there. Obviously depends on how busy the course is. I havenāt played Great River in years so not sure how packed it is/how quick you can motor around.
Ya hard to say. They said it was āguaranteed to finishā but not living up North anymore I am not sure when and how late you can feasibly play golf.
Check out Gainfield Farms, in My local town I play the private 18 holer down the street. This is a public 9 hole par 3 course. But in absolute gorgeous condition and tough. I enjoy playing it to improve iron play!
Fairfield County folksāwhatās up with Whitney Farms?
Course was in pretty rough shape yesterday. Grew up playing there and noticed a pretty steep drop in quality
Can never remember it really being in nice shape, but have only played a few times. Iāve always known it as Shitney Farms.
Checking in here - moved to Darien in May from San Francisco and have been bouncing around to a handful of different courses in the area. Iāve joined the NY Roost as well but havenāt been able to get out to an event. If anyone is playing on a Thurs or Friday morning I can generally shuffle things at work to get out and play. Hopefully will see some of you out there!
Greetings all - Was just gifted a Nest membership for Christmas and looking to getting involved. Iām originally from CT and moved back here last summer. Currently playing out of Tunxis and always down to meet fellow golf sickos.
Hey there! The RACDGNY or Boston groups are probably your best bets depending on where you generally are. the NY group has a discord server i can send you a link too if youād like.
Iām up in Albany NY, most of our guys are in the NJ/NYC area but we def have a few CT guys!
Heyo - Yeah if you could send me that link that would great. Iām pretty equidistant to both NYC and Boston so I will definitely check out both.
sent ya a DM!
Anyone know anything about public play at Yale in '24?
Update: Closed until '26
Hello all,
Iām a RACDG member in the UK and will be travelling with my partner to New Haven who is visiting her best friend at Yale.
Iām thinking of bringing my golf bag and renting a car for the week and let my partner and her friend catch up. Iāve never played golf in the US, so Iām ready to drive a fair way if there are good opportunities.
Iām coming May 3rd to 11th, so there are two weekends covered, one of which will most likely be spent visiting NYC.
If you can get a tee time at Great River in Milford, CT which is not far from New Haven I would definitely try and do that. Itās semi-private but they offer limited public times that you can book online. Theyāre a bit pricey but itās worth it. If you want to take a ride up to the Hartford area which Manchester Country Club, Keney Park, and Wintonbury Hills are all great public courses. A couple others Iād recommend if you donāt mind driving are Fairview Farms in Harwinton, CT and Shennecossett in Groton, CT.
Iām a member at Racebrook Country Club in Orange, CT - maybe 10-15 min from Yale. Happy to get you out there if timing lines up.
Dear Boys and Girls,
I am travelling from the UK to New Haven, CT between May 3 and 8th, I will have 2-3 free days for golf while the miss is visiting her best friend.
Iām ready to drive a couple hours for an exceptional round of golf as Iāve never played in the US of A.
Considering trying to play Bethpage but the drive seems long and most likely full of traffic at least one way.
I also have on my public golf list:
- Pound Ridge
- Ferry Point
- Centennial
- Shennecossett
- Connecticut National
Obviously Yale was on that list but is closed until 2026
I would like to also have the CC experience if anyone is nearby and ready to host me!
Let me know if my list is right or wrong and if you have any more recommendations.
Thanks,
Greg
