Hahaha, that would have been a fun round. I’m assuming they cited safety concerns and the inability to survey damage to the course.
It was so windy that I could barely hear the guy at the window. He asked if I was a member (I’m not) and then just yelled IT’S TOO WINDY and that was that haha.
There were a few people out there - presumably members.
Well that’s some bs then, maybe the didn’t have power and couldn’t process any transactions
I don’t think it was that - their credit card machine goes out constantly, so they would have said that if that was it.
Shenny is always pretty quick to close due to rain, so I guess I can’t be too surprised.

Enjoy the variety of playing all over. Play most frequently at Portland Golf Course.
10 of my favorite courses I’ve been able to play.
I tend to like courses with a variety of short/long holes in both the 4’s and 3’s, as well as short grass leading up to the greens. I don’t hit it too far and that allows for a ground game.
- Shuttle Meadow
- Keney Park
- New Haven CC
- TPC River Highlands
- CC of Waterbury
- LOI (for the serenity)
- Yale
- Portland (home course bias)
- Wampanoag
- Bulls Bridge
I’ve enjoyed lurking a bit so far and keeping up with some local course news.
Playing Lake of Isles North Course for the first time later this morning. Looking forward to it!
I am dying to get on Wampanoag. One of these days…
Have a good time! It is so peaceful out there.
Played through a tournament there, and really enjoyed it. Some of the best conditioned greens I’ve played in the state.
Course was awesome. Lot of fun and I really liked the ability to take some aggressive lines off the tee. Wind was 15-30mph the entire time though so it was a tough scene. Found a lot of bunkers too, lol, but I’ll definitely be checking it out again. Great place.
Glad you enjoyed it. Some of the forced carries can definitely play tough in a strong wind.
Just moved back to the Hartford Area (born and raised) after a few years in Boston. I played 36 on two courses I never played before this Saturday, AM Tee time was Pequot and PM tee time was Shenny. Both were awesome and very deserving of Mystic Strapped! After being a casual golfer my whole life, I’ve fully caught the bug and would love to check out new courses and playing partners in CT.
Welcome! Located just over the border between Sturbridge and Springfield.
Any good spots up there? I saw a place on the drive back from Westfield a few weeks ago called the Ranch.
The Ranch 100% yes. One of the best 3 publics in Mass. Crestview is pretty good too. I play out of The Orchards a little further up in South Hadley. I’d say those are really the highlights in the Mass area. For public golf, I find myself going more to CTN, Keney, and nearby.
Thank you! I’ll have to add those courses to my list!
Ranch is a very fun round. Wintonbury hills is a good public track just outside of Hartford and you can never go wrong with Keney, such a fun layout. As someone who grew up in CT I kick myself for never playing Fenwick or Shennecosset. And of course, play Yale whenever it reopens which hopefully will be soon.
Heading up to Groton, Connecticut this weekend to visit my brother. Have a tee time set up for Fox Hopyard on Saturday but someone on Twitter told me they’ve practically lost the golf course (shoutout ZJ.) Where up there should my brother and I play on Saturday morning? Obviously public and around $100 preferably.
Shenny or Fenwick.
I played Fox a little over a month ago and it was in fine shape, but they do tend to let the place bake out in August, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case.
If you’re going to Groton, Shenny is a no-brainer. Could even try to add a twilight nine at Fenwick if you’re feeling aggressive.
