Roll Call: Colorado -- @PJM v Colorado Golfers, @PJM only half guilty

Lets hope next year’s BMW event is at one of those then. Haha. Otherwise I need to brush up on my elbow rubbing.

First time playing a Ross??

I actually enjoyed the par 3’s there. They were a nice variation to the 180-200yrd par 3’s over water that I play every week. #6 (I think it was 6) was a nice little 165yrd par 3 with enough of a deep ass bunker to make you clench up a bit, especially with that pin on the right side.

When do we tell the new guy about Homestead?

While it’s been almost a decade since I got to play DCC and didn’t get to take it all in quite like the Lakewood day, I don’t think those places are that far off from each other.

DCC is a very… tight piece of property, exceptional conditioning, more of a looker, checks all the boxes, does have a number of dead straight holes, is it 2 times better than Lakewood? No. Lakewood shines in it’s routing, land movement, old school feel. The courses have nearly the same history as far as design. DCC probably has the stronger overall 18, Lakewood has more standout holes.

Is anyone trying to see Modest Mouse tomorrow at Red Rocks? If so, I got 2 tix for you at a great price

Not trolling. What great holes are there at Lakewood? I’ll give you 4 and 14. What other holes?

3, 10, 12, 18 as well

5 is a great par 3 too

I meant 12, the par 5, apologies. 11s green is nasty though

I’ll remember the morning pin on 11 at the NLU tourney for a long long time.

The afternoon pin position was no walk in the park either. Saw two people putt right off. What a diabolical green. 14 is an exceptional golf hole.

I think me and my partner had 5 shots within 10 yards of the green in the afternoon round. Definitely a tough pin.

14 is great.

@D2ChoseMe hit an approach shot there in the morning round that should have been preceded by one of these

I hit a NSFW shot into 4 in the am, used the kicker on the right do feed it to about 5 ft, @_B3 can vouch

I really don’t get why these are “great.” 3 is a long par 5 with bunkers pinching in the landing zone. And then the green is surrounded by bunkers. I don’t see anything strategic or why it’s great. Just hit it as far as you can, as long as you can avoid bunkers off the tee and the bunker that’s like 60 yards short of the green. It’s not a bad hole, but you can find a similar hole at a lot of courses.

10 … my only beef with that hole is that it has never played firm when I’ve played it. I’ve hit the “right” shot twice and it’s gotten stuck on the fringe both times. If it plays right, I’ll give it to you as a great hole.

12 is really the same thing as 3, except there are not bunkers on both sides in play off the tee, and there’s nothing to make you think about a lay up on the approach. Just seems like a standard par 5 - avoid the bunkers on the right and then you can go for the green. That’s fine, but I wouldn’t call it great.

Again with 18, I just don’t get why it’s so interesting. It’s just a closing hole where you have to drive in the fairway to have a good look at the green. If I remember correctly, the green is interesting, but that’s about it.

5 is the same. It’s fine. I don’t see why it’s great. Hit the green or else you’re in a bunker essentially. I guess it’s a little bit uphill? Of the par 3s, I like 17 the best, because I enjoy trying to get the distance right there with a wedge. But they’re all sort of forgettable. Give me Walnut Creek 14 or CommonGround 6 (from the right tees) or 11, or Homestead 6, 15, 17, or 18, over any of the par 3s at Lakewood.

I thought both the approaches into 3 and 12 were super intriguing, 12 tee shot is very straight forward but the approach is tight tight, shorter hitters that fairway bunker is absolutely in play. I know I laid back with 3 wood on 3 because of the 280 bunkers, requires a really good driver shot to hit that shoot, no chance of going for it if you don’t, I had to hit a good 5 iron to catch the left layup area as that bunker on the right came into play if you were on the right side. Both seemed to make you think (at least for me) on one shot, either the drive or the approach which I liked, both green complex’s are very good too.

I forgot about 6 as well, 6 was awesome, kind of had to hit a little downhill cut to get wedge in, otherwise you’re hitting 8-7 into that insane green. Flip that train of thought on 18, that tee shot I remember being a big challenge, I hit one that just drew a little much and i then had to hit a slinger into the green cause of the trees, afternoon played more out right but then we were hitting 9. Great framing on that approach shot.

5? Probably the weakest of the standouts, however the pin being tucked on the right side made that a memorable par 3, the bailout left side left you with a screamer down the hill, or, man up and go right at the flag with death lurking just right.

Anyone know a gui at Lakwood?

It’s the best shot I’ve hit all year but your one liner of “jesus there are kids out here” was even better.
