Howdy, partners.
I am thinking I may be in Chicago the weekend of April 4-6. I will have my clubs, but will probably only be able to sneak in a round on the 4th. This is all extremely preliminary, but I thought I’d hop in here to ask how golf is early April around those parts. Is this something I should explore or would I be better off doing something else with my time?
Potential follow up, if I do end up playing, I’ll probably shoot Venkman (RIP) a text, but I’m sure we could use a couple more. But that’s getting waaaay ahead of everything here.

We generally stay downtown, but I could probably get around.
I’m traveling for work, but would head to Chicago after work shit on the 3rd, my wife would meet me in Chicago because we want to see Crosby play the Hawks on the 5th. But she wouldn’t get in until Friday afternoon, ish.
I am open to plans and schemes and whatever. Just trying to figure out the plausibility first.

If this happens I will have my clubs regardless, so it’s not a dealbreaker, but I would stay in San Diego and play there instead of flying to Chicago early.

Location definitely matters for reasonable travel times to courses that will be in shape that time of year. There are courses open but weather will be a crapshoot. (We have two foursomes and many others playing this weekend and it snowed today.)
If your options for early April golf are San Diego and Chicago, I’m absolutely choosing San Diego and I’ve been there exactly once and not for golf.
But if you want to play on 4/4 in Chicago I guarantee there will be sickos willing to join you. Bring a jacket.

Would the golf be better in San Diego? Probably. Am I playing Torrey Pines while in San Diego? I am. Would I rather get to Chicago and play a round with my people even if the weather is iffy and get a tattoo after, go to a Bulls game Friday, Cubbies game Saturday and Hawks game Sunday? Absolutely.

Taylor Street Tattoo is my go to. Mike Attack has done my last couple when I’m in town. But Marty Mac, a dude who used to work at Taylor Street, now owns Clover Club and I wouldn’t mind checking that out / getting tattooed by him.

Like I said, this is very preliminary, I just don’t want to get my hopes up about Chicago area golf if it’s a horrible idea.
Or hit him with a ball on a drive-able par 4 and try to sign a glove as an apology
