Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 2)

I’m considering myself an honorary Chicagoan for a few months until this trip. Apologies for any geography mishaps.

The 18th at Butler National is a bruiser, like the rest of the course. Also, like The Glen Club’s finisher.

That’s quite the provocative 18th. tightpieceofproperty.gif

That’s a stinky hole. I don’t hate it, but I don’t have a good relationship with it either.

Haha, very prelim stages. I have a stupidly long list of places I’m trying to see all over the place.

18th at Thunderhawk is nice.

Oh I know that side/back right hill/rough at PL well. Fun for scramble outings too. 18 there gives you bunkers to consider off tee, pond left riding the hole until green, and a very comfy bailout on each shot.

And yes, my last time out was strong wind in to us, drives were severely beaten back, zero thought wind cheater layups following. 17 that day I think I hit a 3W and was the only one in foursome to get to green.

Bringing a parking lot as a landing spot is definitely a risk.

I like that its not that punishing if you dump it into the creek. Up and down for par is pretty manageable on that green IMO.

Presents quite the hero shot.

Played a 2 man, 2 day event there probably 12 years ago or so. Scramble and best ball. We were -8 going to 18, had a good drive, and my partner hit his second in the lake. I was gonna go for the safe play, and he saidto me “we didn’t come here to lay up”. Grabbed a new club, hit it on the green, and made birdie on our way to a win. A year or two later in the club championship (which was open to everyone), we had the headwind, and had to lay up. I was leading a guy in our group by 8 with 8 to play. He drained a 50 footer on 18 for a birdie, and a back nine 32 (birdies at 11, 12, 15, and 18, and no exaggeration, probably 150 feet of made putts). Had to make a five footer to hold him off by one and avoid a playoff. That reverse wind is like 3-4 shots harder.

I’d throw out Highlands of Elgin- there’s some risk reward of the tee, folks up on the patio watching. It’s a good finisher.

YES TCR! Had My sectional there freshman year of high school and the fact the patio overhangs the short par 3 makes an amazing finishing hole (more so with a crowd)

Personal favorites that haven’t been mentioned.
Bowes creek (tee off down hill and approach up hill)
Royal fox has an interesting par 5 finisher with an island green (assume many have not played this worth a google maps)

Edit: Can’t believe I forgot Stonebridge. Home of the NACC conference championships and an awesome par 5 finish. @kmcswain you need to get @HackMarkham and I out there with Nick to show you the artistic lines

The roulette wheels at Par-King are a true test of risk, reward, and skill

I love the Faz tribute waterfall on the 18th green. Like a Caves Valley west.

I guess someone has to. That may be the worst hole in Chicagoland. First time my buddy played it, he hit a good drive, good second shot, and pulls 4-iron out for his approach. His confusion became obvious when he lined up to hit a shot toward the ninth green.

Please tell me there was a group on the 9th green.

With Canal Shores Redesign closing the course on 7/25, are we going to move up the reverse routing outing?

Believe we’re moving to a new venue. War at the Shores will likely become Battle at the Brook.
