I’m proud of the way out Breakfast Ball’s own @JAD is battling out there with JT.

Still got an extra ticket for Ryder Cup tomorrow. Just don’t want to see it go to waste. It may end up being a blowout but at least it will be a fun party when the cup comes home

So I played Ravisloe today and I thought it was in pretty decent shape. I certainly have paid more for less. I could also be a part of the unwashed masses, but it felt very much like countless other tree lines courses in the Midwest. Maybe that’s the problem, it has the potential to be more but isn’t, but I never felt like the trees put me in a bad spot. I put myself in bad spots and had to punch out but I felt if you were in the fairways and even off them a bit, you weren’t in bad shape.

This isn’t so much a refutation of your post but more of a “give it a try” to those that are skeptical. I’m glad I played it today.

Anybody want to play Highlands of Elgin on Wednesday morning?

Thanks for all the feedback for course suggestions, my hit list is now chalk full!

Yesterday I made a trek down to the south burbs to play Coyote Run with a friend. I was pleasantly surprised! For only $45 on the weekend w/cart, it was a solid value. The first few holes are a bit of a drag, but once you get away from the clubhouse the course develops some character. Despite the greens being punched a week or so ago, the greens were healed well and the turf conditions were very solid all the way around. Not a long track by any means, but there was enough premium on placement to keep it interesting and engaging. The ideal 65 degree evening and sunset (Mega Light) gave some bonus points too! As Daniel Berger would say, I was straight vibin

Does anybody have a rough guess of the post numbers where we most recently ranked Chicago public courses? My friend wants to play Cantighny on Saturday but it’s $130 and I’m looking for something on the next price point down

Ya I mean it is regarded by many here to be in the top 3 or at least 5 course in the area so I’m being hard on it for that reason. For a lot of us it’s relatively hard to get there too and it’s proving to be maybe not worth the drive. I’ve played Schaumburg a lot lately so maybe that influenced the shock I had in Ravisloe’s conditions, but no course for any price point should have large stones in their greenside bunkers.

What shape is Calumet CC in these days? Played it early last year and haven’t been back. I have a tee time at Heritage Oaks late morning Saturday and was looking for earlier slots elsewhere

edit - and open to playing with others if anyone has an open slot

No one asked for this take, but if I had 10 rounds to split between Old Orchard (for free) and MPGC (for the normal rate) it would be ten for the latter.

Its been 24 hours and I’m still feeling like an absolute wanker for having paid $80 for such an unenjoyable walk.

Burn it down. Well, not the clubhouse, which is actually a kinda sick mid century design.

While we’re shitting on golf courses, I’d like to once again say that Cog Hill can fuck off right into the sun. I haven’t been back since my nearly 6 hour round last year, but called to book a round for Sunday and was immediately reminded that it’s the among the worst golf facilities in Chicago, an indisputable fact that I will now prove using lists:

Cons

  • Always slow
  • Dubs is horrifically overpriced
  • Conditioning is never better than “barely acceptable”
  • Doesn’t allow you to book walking rounds online
  • Nightmarish tee time booking system
  • Requires prepay, even for phone reservations
  • 48 hour cancellation notice or forfeit your entire fee
  • Absurd range fees to hit off grass
  • 1&3 are the same course
  • Has anyone ever seen a beverage cart?
  • Clubhouses are literally falling apart
  • Terrible golf carts
  • Nobody ever answers the fucking phone
  • That Cog Hill beer is dookie
  • Golf boards

Pros

  • Ravines is pretty good
  • The bad courses are open year-round

That said, there’s still an opening if you want to join myself, @FlapjackNickelsack , and @TrajMahal at 9:12 on Sunday 10/3. Make sure you call to book your time if you want to walk.

Best greens I putted on this year was Ravines early July. Immaculate

Hopefully you get another 6 hr round so you don’t have to watch the Bears

I played on Thursday and thought it was in pretty good shape. Certainly not immaculate, but dead spots on the greens are no longer an issue.
