Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 1)

They may all be closed until the pickers can drive around right? At least that’s what I was assuming was the case with Diversey.

Des Plaines Golf Center is my go to as an Avondale Resident.

Are skokie and des plaines open? Or anything southwest?

Des Plaines is always open.

Is DP outdoors or a dome?

Outdoors with heated stalls.

I am curious to see how flooded Des Plaines gets with all the melt. Such a disaster every time.

Bump, and i live in the city

I need to make it here… night golf?? how is that?

if the range just crazy packed always?

It is normally busy on weekend afternoons during this winter, but easy to find open slots at any other time. Three levels and I estimate 60-70 total hitting bays. There were waits in December and January because they aggressively distanced the open spots, but the last few weeks it I have been able to walk to a spot right away.

nice… thinking after the kids are in bed to sneak up there before close and try to find the ever elusive-- what’s it called? – center of the clubface

I hadn’t checked, Diversey is closed?

Mondays and Thursdays are discounted balls and it can get quite crowded. Even then, if you don’t mind hitting off of the third tier there are no issues getting a bay.

I’ve never played the lighted par-3 course but a post-bedtime Refuge Dads outing this summer might be necessary. There is a restaurant with beers, etc.

Great idea @Wyclef. Open until midnight in the summer!

I went to Skokie Sports Park Saturday,
They replaced the hitting area mats with super chunky raised mats, not a fan but its better than nothing

You have tapped into my golf practice routine. Mine is also paired with the judgemental “You’re REALLY going to go golf at 8pm on a Thursday?!” from my wife.

No, I’m practicing golf… which she thinks is even worse

So in true dad fashion, if a group of us get together at night at the range we have to call ourselves The Night Rangers, right?

The 9 hole course is straightforward but also interesting enough to keep you coming back. I’m most definitely in if there interest in an informal regular outing

I took lessons at DP, but have never actually played the course. I may try to head over there tomorrow for a bit. Haven’t swung a club since end of Dec.

I have 2-4 booked at 5iron on Monday if anyone wants to join.

Sup Chicago! Hope it’s kosher to put this here, but we’ve got a ladies-only clinic at Five Iron that we host on the first Friday of the month and wanted to spread the word. It’s called the “Weekend Warmup” and is more fundamentals-focused, but also a heavy emphasis on socializing and finding friends to play with. People have a blast at these things and it’s a really low-stress opportunity to introduce somebody to the game, or help them to get a better sense of what they’re doing out there. 2 drinks & a 1.5 hour group lesson included in the price, so it’s a pretty solid deal.

All the details can be found here and I can also answer any questions for ya! Appreciate any assistance in spreading the word!
