Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 1)

Though a Cubs fan, this 2005 White Sox World Series image definitely makes me want to purchase an ill fitting Sox headcover.Screenshot_20210111-203546_Chrome

Anyone have a teacher in Chicagoland they really like?

Skypoint

The one year I could have used the golf show to pick up a F9 head for cheap too.

Or a quote on some new gutters, perhaps a stay and play weekend at a casino course in Alabama.

A younger me used get so excited for the show. There was also a year or two when the show overlapped with a Farrakhan event. That was quite the mashup of people making the long walk from the parking garage.

I honestly don’t see myself going to a poorly ventilated convention center crawling with pensioners touching everything for a couple years.

The icing on the cake was they had the Shannon Rovers do a lap.

Is there a good thread for shoes/waterproofing questions? I got them new corduroy Nikes for xmas and all I hear is never spray for waterproofing. Trying to figure out if mink oil would still work here. Thanks.

Quick tangent - I was traveling back to Chicago for work (moved away for a few years for the job) and staying in the Hyatt at ORD next to the convention center frequently. The back concrete tower is where they put folks with point status - some normal rooms, some suites and such. My (now) wife joined me for a week to plan our return and the hotel upgraded me in to a nice big suite with actual art and such, and she thought I traveled well. Until we got off the elevator.
Farrakhan was across the hall from us, and his guards were everywhere and heavily armed, including sitting in a chair outside my door for the stay. That was August of '10, setting up his return - Feb of '11.

Shoutout to @chockfullofthat for waiting this long…but here are the OF photos that have been saved from my old laptop (shoutout to the fine crew at Wilson Sports for digging up these files)

I didn’t get everyone from the event, but I did get a good handful of folks (there’s a lot of our group…because we’re awesome)

Worth the wait! Thanks for sharing the photos and ending the hunger strike. The backgrounds on the 4th approach shot and 10th tee are fantastic!

was comparing ross courses in chicago today and did some area takeoffs on average green sizes:

evanston: 6500 sqft
beverly: 6650 sqft
ravisloe: 4000 sqft (!)

it’s not a surprise but it’s still a staggering difference. I wonder how much money it costs to maintain that extra 45,000 sqft of greens

then I started looking at other courses and you know what course has sneaky large greens, Ravines! 6800 sqft. The 11th at Ravines is pushing 12,000sqft, for example. Mt Prospect weighs in at 5800 sqft, Highland of Elgin at 6000 sqft.

TLDR: ravisloe has hella shrunken greens

I never would have guessed greens at Ravines were that much larger than MP.

This is the content we’re here for. Can’t wait for the report on the rest of the courses in the state. Keep it up!

Can we do requests? I would LOVE to see the difference between Cary CC vs Foxford Hills GC

I saw somewhere on Twitter that the Tour greens are huge and that’s a big reason why players can score well from just about anywhere but a penalty area…which I would 100% believe

In the spirit of yesterday’s Trapdraw episode and 2021 golf goals, I will voice mine here since none of my friends golf…

From the one up tees at Mount Prospect I will birdie every hole and eagle 9, 15, and 17. Being a resident means season pass for $1550, workday ending at 2:45pm means lots of after work nines, and summers off means 5 rounds a week May-August. I will not read any replies about teachers having it easy and instead will laugh at everyone working in the summer as I grab my bag out of my car and walk to the first tee every time.
