Roll Call: Central New York

big fan of the turning stone setup… was the only way I was able to scratch the itch during winter months. Big fan of the practice area as well. Great way to burn half a day & grab some good grub by the casino too.

I actually got fitted for irons there as well… they did a fantastic job

Thought I would reach out and start to gauge some interest on a possible refuge meetup this spring somewhere in CNY? If anyone has any courses they think would work shout them out.

Planning a trip to the Finger Lakes with my wife in August. She is a novice (~2-3 rounds in her life) and has agreed to feed my habit by playing while we’re in the area. Looking for any course suggestions that would be on the easier side and hopefully wide open for an afternoon round.

Thanks in advance—really wouldn’t even know where to start with searching!

Cheers,

Kevin

My wife and I come up from Lancaster PA for a few days every summer(last week of July this year)Does Geneva CC on Seneca allow guest play? Do I need to have my head pro call? If not, any recommendations in the Watkins Glen area. Every time I drive by Geneva CC I’m enamored by the fairway with the centerline tree.

I’m not sure if they allow guest play at GCC. I actually work just outside of Watkins Glen and there’s not a lot of golf in that immediate area. Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira is an old Donald Ross course and not too far from Watkins. Soaring Eagles in Horseheads is another good option.

Hi all,

I am a member at Sunset Ridge in Marcellus and am looking for a partner in the member guest tournament July 9-11. Anybody interested?

I will be in the Oneonta / Cooperstown area next week for a week for my son’s 12U baseball tournament (Cooperstown All Star Village).

Looking forward to playing the Leatherstocking course again, and wondering whether there are any Nesticles / Refugees in the area that would like to join me for a round there or in Oneonta? I see that the Oneonta CC boarders the baseball facility where my son will be playing.

So I was able to get on Geneva CC. The head pro from my home course called. Very cool little 9-holer. Some real interesting green complexes that were in great shape. No fairway bunkers, but pretty tight otherwise. The pro sent me out with some members who were very accommodating. There’s two sets of tees to keep each 9 interesting. As promised, here’s a picture of the centerline tree hole(4/13)

That hole looks awesome. Was it a pretty walkable course? It looks like it’s in good shape

Yeah, course was in very good condition. Greens were true, decent speed. Very walkable. A few uphill slogs, but manageable.

Pretty psyched about playing Atunyote tomorrow! Anyone played it recently? I’m assuming it is in terrific shape as usual. I haven’t played it in probably 4-5 years.

Thanks for the reply! Location of our tripped has changed to Baltimore and we’re going to try a few of the courses from Strapped: Baltimore. Again, appreciate the follow-up!

Hey hey! So the state of NY in whole maybe be lumped as one roost. I’m curving to see if WNY can get our own if enough interest. And thought if we combined WNY with CNY that could give us the numbers we would need. Driving to NYC is just alot for us WNYrs. Let me know who would be interested. It didn’t mean you have to go to all events just be part of it and try to make one when you can.

I’m definitely interested. I had much the same thoughts that combining everything north of NYC might make things more manageable

Here’s the link for the sign up. I don’t know if we will get it. We may for the first year just be thrown in with NYC. But trying to get a bunch signed up to see if that helps. We haven’t had a captain yet. I can do it, but if someone else wants to they can too. Not trying to bulldoze anything just trying to get it going.

WNY/CNY ROOST sign up. Maybe the Lake Effect Roost.
