Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers

I realize this was your friends and not you, but I think we would all do well to comply with whatever regulations the courses have implemented (whether we agree with them or not). It’s a blessing to have our courses open at all now and failure to follow the rules could end that real fast.

Totally! I was cringed when he told me that everyone else was doing that too. Sheesh! We’re definitely fortunate to have things open.

Well, to be fair, they seem to be accepting tee times at two minute intervals, so I’m not sure what the foursome policy actually is.

Not implying that this was the case with your friends, but I’ve had the experience twice now where I was doing the singles only thing at Shoreline, and got stuck a group or two behind people who had done this (booked 4 consecutive times and partnered). It really clogged the whole thing up, and looked funny as it was just a string of singles waiting behind the 4 some.

In both cases I think it was exacerbated by the groups themselves being slow players, and not letting the singles through.

And, I just skipped a couple holes to get ahead of them, and then had a nice big gap to zoom through.

It’s like people forgot how to be courteous on course. When I played Harding last week, the twosome in front of us just ended up doing a 2nd loop of the front nine instead heading to the back nine and we were wide open the whole way as well. I guess for them maybe it’s one of the perks of starting your round at 3:40pm?

So interesting. I went out in a twosome last week at Peacock Gap with @marklemcd and we were told explicitly NOT to join up with any group ahead of us.

I also know that in Sacramento, where courses were open the whole time in general, many courses DID get shut down temporarily due to non-compliance with social distancing. I hope we can appreciate how lucky we are to be able to play and just deal with the weirdness that courses have (especially when they’re all sort of different from one another) so they can stay open.

Agreed

Speaking of Harding Park…just finished an early am round with my bud. They are going off in Twos, and have a really good checkin system. Tighter security too - prob with the PGA prep going on. Lots of grandstands and infrastructure going up.
Anyway…place is looking good. Rough is in and up and it was wet today making anything in the rough a hack out. Best shot of my life today may have been a 100 yd 8 iron layup from it. It’s deeeep. And I didn’t hit nearly enough fairways (3 of 14😳), missing half a dozen by only a few feet which turned into instant bogeys - assuming you can find your ball. Greens are nothing remarkable. Great shape but not super fast or anything. Shot 89 off 11. 3 hrs 15 mins for $79 city res rate. Awesome.

One more pic of the rough. There is 3 ft of first cut which is more than playable…and this was three feet from that. Penal.

Just called Pebble to see if I could take advantage of the $450 green fee that they’re running for NCGA members in May and they told me they don’t have a single opening for two or more players for the rest of the month. Only a handful of singles are available for the next couple weeks.

It seems like they’re doing okay down on the peninsula…

I am playing there tomorrow at 3:12, I will let you know.

Literally everyother tee time is open tomorrow, I t appears I will have the course to myself. Only a few times were booked today. Pace of play should be glorious.

I’m playing at 4:54 tomorrow - and bringing the dog. Maybe I’ll see you (and your dog??) as you make the turn.

Tilden was beautiful today. Pictures really not doing it any justice…rough is pretty hairy and greens were super slow but great to be out there again, beautiful walk in the park

What was the range situation at peacock gap like? Need to go get some rust off after a very up and down first round out.

It was fairly crowded. I think most folks were keeping their distance. Balls all bought via credit card, in theory they’re all sanitized before being put back in the machine.

Were they checking IDs for the Marin only? How did that work.

when I hit balls on a range last week I didn’t use a tee so I wouldn’t have to touch the golf balls with my hand so I didn’t hit driver

I just got a time for Presidio and apparently it’s a flat rate for residents and non-residents. I will post a weekly roundup tomorrow after my round on the courses I played this week!

Guise, Northwood 7/11 is not looking good. Just got off the phone with them and as of now 1. It’s Sonoma County residents only and 2. He wouldn’t even book a group because he said he can’t trust us to social distance correctly and not bring heat on them. He was being pretty cut throat. I asked if we could just book 6 different foursomes and he basically said we would all have to show up separate, play, and leave. Not much of a get together. I will keep my eye on how things are shaping up and if anything changes with the Covid social distancing regs hopefully we can still get something going sometime this summer.
