Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers

It’s on the outskirts as you drive out 12 toward Kenwood and Sonoma Valley. Conditions could be marginal as the course is going through a lot of financial upheaval; how was it last month? Good luck and have fun!

Well I mean our courses up here are pretty goat trackish haha so anytime we leave here conditions seem pretty pure. The greens were in fine shape and rollin true last month. They are actually pretty tricky greens now that I remember! @Shankadelic

If you don’t mind my asking, how difficult was it to become a member at pasa? I was fascinated by the model, but it seemed reliant on people wanting to sell.

go play Northwood!

Haha just replied to your DM saying it’s gonna be Northwood/Pasa or Monterey. Slight chance of Berkeley CC. Any info about that course? @GremlinGolfer

I have played golf in this area for 20 years and I had never heard of Berkeley CC until your post. Therefore I have no input. Now I am curious.

Same here. Just googled it. . .

" The Club suffered financial difficulties following the Great Depression, membership dropped, and other entities had visions for the property. After much consideration, the Club was reorganized and in 1944, adopted the name, “Mira Vista Golf and Country Club”.

"On February 10, 2017, the Equity members voted to return the name of the Club back to its original founding name “Berkeley Country Club”.

"In 2011 the course underwent a complete restoration by Forrest Richardson & Associates. This included the installation of bent grass greens, the addition of 15 bunkers lost over time, creek restoration, and a state of the art maintenance facility. The restoration received national recognition including the first ever Award for Excellence from the prestigious American Golf Architects Association.

“The ’new’ Berkeley Country Club remains a testament to the Golden Age of Golf in America and the vision of two legendary golf architects, Robert Hunter and Willie Watson. Challenging yet playable for all skill levels, Berkeley Country Club is back and ready to delight a new generation of Bay Area golfers.”

Never heard of Mira Vista either.

That doesn’t sound promising if neither of you have ever heard of the place haha. My friend knows someone who is a member there that’s been asking him to come play.

There are usually shares for sale. You can email the club to ask for a list of shares for sale. Then you call the individual people who have put shares for sale (usually with an asking price) and negotiate. You do a deal with the individual then go to the club to close. No membership committees or anything like that. There are some additional fees to activate the golf privilege associated with owning the share. Pretty darn simple.

I’m pretty stunned. It’s not a long track and is up in the hills. I’m guessing it’s pretty damned windy. Seems like it would totally be worth giving it a go if only for random bragging rights.

Photos make it look as if it has sick/gross/too good views. Bet it’s amazing at sunset.

hey…go find yourself a gem and report back to us. I would be down to play Chuck Corica South. I haven’t been since the reno.

Berkeley CC has public tee times on golf now

That’s always a sign of a thriving club. Next step groupon?

Also had never heard of Berkeley CC, but had recently looked it up after meeting someone who was a member there. Was thinking “I was in Berkeley for 6 years, how the heck have I never heard of this place?”

Really? Well there ya go I just assumed it was private.

Also any love for Yocha Dehe? I know it’s not quite Bay Area or the #wokest but in the late winter to early spring when it’s not roasting it is always in amazing shape. Great value too at only like 85$. I always have a great time when we go there.

I finally got over there late this spring. It was surprisingly gorgeous and the course was basically immaculate. Pace of play was good. Fun track!

Berkeley CC is not in Berkeley, it’s in El Cerrito. It was called Mira Vista for a while. It is / was private. I just noticed tee times available for the public last weekend.

I need to get up Claremont and/or Sequoyah. Couple of East Bay hills bucket list items.
