Ah. Yes. I remain shaken at the image of a divot flying so much farther than a golf ball. When it hit the center of the lake, the divot sort of clung to the surface briefly before one edge tipped up and it slowly sank into the deep. Not unlike the Titanic.
[Also, note the math from Mack there. . . He drove it 310 into a breeze.]
What was really fun was being able to walk to my bag, grab another ball, and then, unbeknownst to you all, choosing to play the second ball to the divot-turned-island green that was now floating in the pond. It’s one of those “unmarked holes” that are so hot in the streets right now, I really did the Super a favor
Ha! Not sure if you heard me say this yesterday, but last time I’d played the course, I also hit that flagstick with my approach (and it bounced into the pond).
That was a very long morning but tons of fun and you were the consummate host. I realized about two weeks ago how lazy my grip had gotten and how utterly damaging my swing was as a result. With more attention to it and a new set of woods (I’ll buy a new swing if I can damnit) I think my game is far less tragic right now but still in occasional or frequent need of CPR.
Fasho. Was going to try and get some deets and come in with a surprise surprise they haven’t called me back yet
Update: just called and talked to someone in the pro shop. I guess the guy who takes the event requests is “on sabbatical” but pro shop said they would text him with my info directly. Will keep you guise posted.
Well worth is in the eye of the beholder. If, for example you’re a MacKenzie completionist, it’s a must. For others it might just be a nine holer in the middle of nowhere.
At the end of the day if we get 30ish refuge golf sickos together to smack it around a redwood grove on a top ranked nine holer…yeah it’s worth it.
I made the drive from SF to play two loops in October 2018, when I was in the area playing golf for a few days.
It was super fun, but it was was a haul. I have no regrets. That said, I will likely be in the area in July and I am not going back. I am going to play some other places.
I would echo @fullbodyfix, if you are a Mac guy or curious it would be worthwhile.
I’ll add that if it were me, I’d prob plan to crash up there in maybe santa rosa / petaluma / sebastopol and explore some wineries and get another round in elsewhere. Make a weekend out of it if possible.
Bay Area will be much more attractive as a fan of competitive golf. Something nice to see almost every year this decade
