I’m still flexible at this point. Santa Cruz one day for sure and plan to be downtown SF for a couple.
I’m trying to get out on Sunday this week in the South Bay, open to any course just wanna get out! Anybody trying to link up?
Played there two years ago and they are both an enormous test of your game. Great courses on old Fort Ord I believe. Very fun time and make sure you grab lunch there.

It is - find a caddie and they can take you out there. Must play since it’s Tilly’s westernmost course.
has anyone been to Hiddenbrooke out in vallejo? i haven t played there since last year was curious on current conditions, fore i have a tee time this saturday.
Fresh out of caddie connections but I will work on it. Thanks!
This prob won’t be a lot of help - but played there last year during the rainy season on a day that it rained right up to our tee time and it was actually pretty good. I think with all the ravines and hills it drains well. They’ve done a nice job with the greens from what I remember and the bunkers were getting redone as well - not sure how far they got.
just spoke with a friend who was out there last weekend and he said it was firm and pretty pure.
thanks!
Great news!
First round at Stonetree (Novato). After chatting on IG with @GremlinGolfer I feel vindicated in saying: it’s weird. Not bc I didn’t score well (I didn’t). But rather a feel I’ve gotten from Johnny Miller’s designs. Essential, if you’re not a precise iron player, you get effed. The greens all have a ton of undulation and spines, that as a first timer are quite punishing.
I can’t imagine how hard this place would play in summer conditions. I hit 6 of 7 fairways on the back and shot 50 (11 hcp). Always hard to separate the scorecard from a course review but I just don’t see myself going back.
Conditioning was excellent and some very nice views. But yeah…anyone been? Liked?
Par 5 14th - a huge drop off to a narrow S shaped fairway, back up the hill to a green that had three levels, a bowl and tongue. Idk
I’m not a fan of Stonetree. It’s harder than it should be, and also sort of not memorable in any good way. The back nine has some cool holes, and it’s challenging, but I don’t really like it. If you’re a fan of width and angles, it’s not a course for you. Pretty tight, tight, tight piece of property, to quote someone. You also NEED to play from the correct tees for your handicap there.
Speaking of North Bay courses. I moved to Marin from the East Bay and have only played Indian Valley and Peacock Gap. My dad is coming to town and we’re going to play a round or two. I like Peacock because it’s so walkable, what one other course would you recommend in the North Bay? Or should I just go into the SF.
Too bad that San Geronimo is closed. I always enjoyed playing there.
If you go farther north, Foxtail North course is a nice little hidden gem. Plenty of fun holes and the course is in good shape assuming it stays dry. Beyond that, Windsor Golf Course is a great track. Nice and challenging but unique, and less than half a mile from the new Russian River Brewery location.
Rooster Run is in Petaluma, its fine, some people like it more than others, I personally am not a huge fan of management.
If you go east to American Canyon, both Eagle Vines are Chardonnay are pretty sweet places to play.
Do you think the PGA Championship will sell out?
Bit of a trek but Northwood
Make a day out of it with gambling at Yocha dehe
Hadn’t heard of foxtail. Any worry with conditions or will it be similar to everything else? I’ve played both the American Canyon ones. Is Northwood really that good?
For me, northwood was almost spiritual.
As for Northwood, I have not played since I was a kid but I’ve heard its awesome and a very unique experience with the surroundings. Also its a nice drive down Russian River to the coure.
Foxtail right now should be in nice shape, it only gets iffy when they have a lot of rain but since it has been so dry, I imagine the fairways will be plush and greens should be rollin I would call the proshop to confirm but I’m a huge fan of Foxtail. Make sure you play the north course though, south course is the short course, north can be stretched out and its where Sonoma State Golf team plays out of.They hosted an NCAA D2 tourney there when I was in school.
We’ll with that kind of review how do I not drive the extra 30 min.
