bumping this - come join the only nest run golf course in the Bay Area!
I may have missed something. What is the only nest run golf course in the Bay Area??
Does @k-yan 's backyard mini course count?
First of all, I am not in the Bay Area. Secondly, I think @needmorespeed was talking about the only Nest run course that the general population can afford. KYCC is unobtainable for most everyone
@needmorespeed may or may not be the manager of a course in the Bay Area, which he can disclose as needed. Not gonna doxx the man!
EDIT: I see he has previously noted this as StoneTree. Greebs regrets the error.
not doxxing me!
I put this out there and we actually had 1 nest member join already. I’m at StoneTree, but membership also includes Crow Canyon, Boulder Ridge, Fairbanks Ranch and via Troon Prive others like Marin CC, Fountaingrove and Silverado.
It’s a good deal!
Going to be in the area feb 21-23. I land around 11:30 on the 21st, anyone want to play Harding Park at around 1?
First time, long time. I live down in Carmel Valley (Monterey area). Currently going back to school to get my degree in construction management and getting out to golf as often as possible if anyone is down this way for golf, mountain bikes, motorcycles or cold beers let me know
Awesome.
Who else read “cold beers” in @MerchCzar ’s voice?
I’m supposed to fly into SFO tomorrow (Friday) morning for a work meeting. Truth be told, this is a meeting I could easily do remotely, but the plan was to turn the trip into a golf weekend. Was going to play Friday afternoon somewhere near the city and then head down to Monterey for the weekend to play Poppy Hills, Pacific Grove, Pasateimpo, etc. Hit the Refuge, walk around Pebble, etc. I’ve never been to Monterey.
Having said that, it sounds like the Bay Area was hit hard last week with a bunch of rain and now getting hit with an atmospheric river. So I’m asking for local advice on what to expect with course conditions out there. Do courses drain well? Will courses generally be open and playable? Or is it going to be a muddy mess and places might even be closed? The only reservation I have booked is my flight, which I can cancel for a credit. So I’m not out any money by cancelling the trip. But I really want to play golf if courses will be in average or better condition.
Avoid most of the city proper courses (Presidio, Lincoln). Best bet is Corica Park South which is sand capped and handles the weather fine.
I’m not sure Monterey got as much rain as we did. Poppy Hills does pretty well as it’s mostly sand underneath. Others down that way chime in. I’m not an expert in that area.
But yeah we got hammered yesterday and today. Soggy in most spots.
would echo corica and poppy are your best bets.
i’m guessing pasatiempo with recent renovation should be pretty good too.
Pasa didn’t do much work on the fairways, so it could still be soggy. I played there last year in the winter, post the front nine renovation, and after a storm like the one we are having now, and the fairways were really soggy.
To echo this, I think the rack rate for Pasatiempo is now over $400. On a dry, clear day it’s worth every cent (and I haven’t even played it since the renovation). But I’d hate for you to pay that to walk in the mud. I’d probably go to Pacific Grove since the price is right or head to Poppy Hills which has gone through a renovation fairly recently and I assume drains pretty well (and it’s also fantastic).
Totally agree with the others that Pasa can be sloppy and it’s probably not worth the price. And Poppy is a good bet.
I’ll add that Bayonet/Black Horse also drains quite well. I prefer BH as it’s more fun and not quite as punishingly narrow.
Oh, good call - i’ve never played there but the RACDG Slack seems to agree Bayonet/Black Horse drain better than almost any other course in the area.
Bayonet and blackhorse are the best draining courses in the bay area bar none. They will be the firmest courses every winter. Poppy drains well as does corica park but b/bh is the best for winter playing conditions
Id play poppy or corica over bayonet personally but those 4 were my rainy day courses when I was living in the bay
We got a at least 2.5” of rain here in the Monterey area the last few days but it’s sunny now.
Bayonet / Black Horse drain pretty well as does Poppy & PG as mentioned.
Del Monte, Monterey Pines will be pretty soupy.
Quail Lodge and Carmel Valley Ranch are a quick jog inland but awesome courses in Carmel Valley that are usually in decent shape after the rains despite being on the river.
I’ve heard Cypress drains well, maybe you can play there.
Have a family member getting married west of Santa Rosa in June, I lightly steered my family to stay in the Guerneville area.
I did not tell them that 10 minutes away that there’s a golf course that’s been on my bucket list for years. My question is, what time of day is best to play Northwood? Gotta think early morning right? Do I have to worry about tee time availability? Probably only have time for 9 unfortunately.
